I can’t take my tinnitus no more

Hi everyone,

Sorry for my english but i’m not fluent so i’ll try my best to be understood.

First, I am 25. I had tinnitus on my right ear since i was a teenager (ENT said that was because of the loud music on earpods) since, i haven’t listen to loud music no more on it.

Everytime I go to a concert/carnival/festival(which is not often) i wear supceat earplugs.

I’ve been going to nightclubs since i was 19/20 but also, i’m not going there every weekends just sometimes to have fun with my friends.

During the covid period, i caught it 3 times and i have one vaccine injection.

I’m litteraly always sick, i always have a blocked nosetril.

I’ve been diagnosed depressive and hypochondriac.

2 years ago, i lost my mom from a cancer which really has affected me.

Last year, in october 22, while i was sick bc i got cold, my ears was clogged and tinnitus got worse on the right ear AND i had a new one on the left ear.

This made me very anxious and i could not stop thinking about it.

I went to see a first ENT and told me that my hearing was very normal (between 0db and 20db with a small low on 4k) and that my tinnitus is probably bc of my eustachian tube. He gave me corticosteroids for my nose and a balloon exercise that I didn't continue because I didn't like it

I went to see other ENTs who say the same thing without making me medical analysis.

Now, on sept 23, my tinnitus still ruining my life and i still have this feeling of clogged ear, sometimes i have hyperacousis. Since one year too, i have horrible migraines.

Also, when i swallow i eat a little « click » on my ear and when i move my jaw, my tinnitus desappears.

I have anxiety attacks bc i’m so focus on my ears and sometimes i feel like i lost/loosing my hearing.

Please i don’t know what to do, i’m convinced that my tinnitus is not bc of the loud music, i hang with ppl and djs that goes to the club almost everyweek, why don’t they have tinnitus ?

Hi Lola

I’m not a doctor but it sounds like you have an ear infection that could be making your tinnitus worse - so I would look into that first it could be a symptom of what is called “long covid” if you had covid three times and only one vaccine , there are I believe anti viral drugs that could help but speak to your doctor . If your jaw clicks and the tinnitus stops briefly after ,you could go for a head /neck massage or manipulation but it has to be the right person someone who does sacral cranial massage . The stress you are suffering from these physical symptoms will also make tinnitus worse , it feeds on stress , the worst thing to do is to monitor the noise 24/7 , sounds impossible I know but you can through time train your brain and yourself not to react to the noise in a way that causes more stress .

Hi !:)

Thank you for your response.

I agree on the fact that maybe covid has to do something with but you know doctors sometimes don’t take us seriously. I have an appointment with an other ENT. I’m going to see.

Good morning Lola , firstly your English is very good . I am sorry to hear about the loss of your dear Mum. I too lost my mum 4 years ago and believe this stress triggered my ear troubles and tinnitus . First of all I would treat your anxiety and possibly get some counselling , if you can get your stress levels down and calm down then you might be able to cope better . Try and do a different routine . Plenty of walks in the fresh air should help , I see you live in France . Is the weather nice over there?

Hi Rabbit,

I am also sorry for you loss, this is not an easy thing. Life can be unfair sometimes..

I’m trying to treat my anxiety but i got some family problems that makes thing worse. I’m thinking about moving out from family house. I’m saying that maybe my tinning would go away. I will see. Otherwise i’ll take your recommandations, thank you :)

I do live in France ! But i live in Paris not Nice, but if you’d like to go to Nice, the weather is absolutely amazing as it’s in the south ;)

So sorry to read of your plight. I'm recently affected by T which from Wiki (English pages) was brought on by emotional stress. (3 bereavements in 7 weeks). That gives me hope. If it appeared under that I can see no reason why it shouldn't improve with the passing of time, that greatest of healers. Meanwhile, I can recommend a sound box from a company called 'Sound Oasis'. It's a tiny thing and easily kept in a blouse pocket. Masking the T is working for me. Anything than being left alone with it. I'm sure an employer would be sympathetic to your wearing the ear pieces at work. Eventually, I hope to acquire a recording device to capture everyday sounds that work for me, such as a bus diesel engine, as well as sounds from the internet, like a jet aircraft warming up. But that's a daunting task to sift through the many products shown on Amazon, which I have yet to start - but I have all this coming winter! I hope this message from me might give you some comfort. Ray.

Hi Ray,

I’m also sorry to hear that.

Are you listening to loud music ?

Do you please have the link of the wiki page you did read ?

Oh yea! I sometimes use white noise to mask by T.

Here we are, Lola

en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Tinnitus

Also found there "45% of people with tinnitus have an anxiety disorder at some time in their lives". I had no idea of that. Highly significant and a cause to wonder...

I never listened to loud music. When young I was told that the body, head included, is still developing up to and probably beyond age 21. The Walkman had just appeared and there were plenty warning about the level of noise they could generate. I paid heed to that.

hi Lola! I am 58 and have had tinnitus since I was 11. I am so sorry for your troubles. I think rabbit65 might have a good point. I remember seeing an ENT a long time ago who told me he developed tinnitus after his daughter died. Grief does bad things to us.

I am frustrated for you that you are suffering and not getting help. I wonder if you could have Eustachian tube dysfunction? This could cause that tight blocked feeling in your ear. Although my tinnitus started from noise exposure, it has developed into a Eustachian tube issue. When I can, I am able to find help with an acupuncturist who places needles around the ear to remove the fluid and the pressure. That is the only thing that has worked for me. Not every acupuncturist knows how or is willing to do this procedure.

I hope you find help. I know firsthand what it’s like to be young and have such a terrible problem when friends can go to clubs and listen to loud music and you can’t. I have protected my hearing since I was very young and I have perfect hearing Yet still have all the other issues. Please get chat for TMJ, eustachian, tube, dysfunction, and possibly allergies.

Hi Marlyana,

Thanks for your response :) It helps a lot.

I’m a bit curious, what was the reason of your T ? And because of that you developed an eustachian tube dysfunction right ?

Marlayna67 profile image
Marlayna67 in reply to Lola77921

My first experience of T started when I was 11 and was exposed to noise. It settled down, and then at 12 I went to a concert which caused it to be mostly permanent. I developed severe allergies and ear infections in my 30s. That and the ongoing use of decongestants and meds caused Eustachian tube dysfunction and hyperacusis. The issues aren’t related, and my brain hyper focuses on the noise, which is my biggest problem.

Hi Marlayna,

Ok i see, i’m so sorry to hear that….

To sleep, I use white sleep, it helps a lot. Maybe you should try? About allergies, did you try medication ?

Sounds like you need to go see a TMJ dentist. It might be your jaw

What are your other symptoms ?

Doxiemom1 profile image
Doxiemom1 in reply to Lola77921

Really no real pain. My jaw is really off centered. You can tell by looking at my mouth. Have to wear mouth guards. No hard foods. Sometimes jaw pops. I have dentures so it’s hard to try to get aligned. If I had my own teeth I think treatment might get rid of tinnitus

Sorry about your mom.

It seems that sorted out infections and jaw problems could help you (I hope....).

As about loudness - it's personal endurance (genes ? maybe ?). I don't like loud concerts or anything but I have T as well..... Take care about your hearing - we are not the same, you could be more sensitive than your friends.

Hello NaiveGreen,

Thanks for my mom :)

I don’t know if it’s genetic or not, my sister got a little T as well and she doesn’t go to concert or nightclubs, so maybe you’re right ?

Hi:

New Tinnitus research is coming out all the time so don't get too depressed.. I know it must be upsetting at times..

Right now for example there are great YouTube Tinnitus masking videos that could really help mask your Tinnitus..

Videos like "Tinnitus Sound Therapy" and my favorite ones of "Chirping Crickets"..

Try them..

Have an mri. Say u want to be sure you don't have any benign growths ie acoustic neuroma as that can cause tinnitus.
