Hi, I was wondering what natural treatments people are taking to help with the anxiety that a lot of us with T have to deal with every day ? Does 5-htp work ? How about St Johns wort and L Theanine ? Which seems to work best for you ?

I've not found any of those things make a difference , the best thing i've found for anxiety is exercise classes . I do spin , aerobics /dancercise and boxing .

Exercise classes not really a possibility where I live but I keep active every day and go cycling when I can. Thanks.

Hi WM72 I've tried all three. St Johns Wort is good for low mood. 5HTP for sleep and L Theanine for anxiety. I take 5HTP regularly for anxiety (not just T related) and notice the difference if I don't take it for a week or so. It's trial and error to see what works best for you. Hope this helps 🙂

Yes, you mentioned L Theanine recently so I looked it up. I will try the 5HTP though. Thanks.

Try magnesium supplements and cbd

I must say 5 HTP which i took for sleep made no difference to my sleeping habits! If you do take St John’s Wort you cannot take any medication for depression, anxiety or similar at the same time.

I don't take any medication and I sleep ok apart from anxious dreams some times. I need something to help with low mood and anxiety during the day.

Anything that puts my serotonin levels up increases m tinnitus unfortunately.

St John’s wort is way less ototoxic than antidepressants. Saffron is good too & mixes with other meds well unlike SJW.

Thanks, I will have a look at saffron.

Hi Woodman. If you're into tea, you could try drinking Imperial Pu Erh tea at bedtime. It's a tea I came across that contains gamma-aminobutyric acid (GABA). This amino acid is a neurotransmitter that medics say helps to calm anxiety (I'm not a medic).

The tea is an acquired taste and it's not cheap, but it is a natural product, which might or might not work for you. It seems to work for me, but so do other things such as green tea, meditation and exercise.

There's an entire range of foods that either contain or enhance natural production of GABA, easily found online through a search engine.

I hope you find a good balance that works for you!

Thanks for that. I only really like regular black tea but I could give it a go. I will check out the GABA foods too. Cheers.

I tried limited dosage of Zoplicone, anti-depressants, Nytol and then Dr Stuart's Valerian Plus team. None of these were great but I just started drinking Twining's Sleep Tea and having doubted it would work am amazed at the effect it has. I still wake up a couple of times a night and earlier than before my tinnitus and hyperacusis returned with a vengeance but I get to sleep pretty quickly, wake up far less and sleep longer. It also tastes nice.

Going swimming the other day was the most human I have felt in a while as I didn't notice my tinnitus at all and it used to make me feel better but I overdid it and feel dreadful now. If you aren't an idiot like me and take it easy, it could well help. I always wear earplugs incidentally.

I did take some serious meds at the beginning which got me over the worst of the depression etc. That was 10 years ago now and I've just started taking a mix called Arkorelax which contains Rhodiola, Magnesium and vitamin B6 and I add some St Johns Wort too. This seems to be working as I'm feeling more relaxed and more normal. I'm going to do a 3 week cure then stop for a while and see how it goes. I may try the sleep tea too. Hope your feeling better now. Thanks.
