Anxiety and Tinnitus

HiSo I came off HRT because it increased my tinnitus it's been over 6 weeks now and over the past week I've now developed morning anxiety which is a peri-menopause symptom and obviously increasing my tinnitus awareness, I work from home and have started going in to the office a few days a week to break things up a bit, can someone recommend how to deal with the morning anxiety and tinnitus? the anxiety seems to ware off towards the afternoon at which point my tinnitus doesn't bother me too much, I have been given anti depressants by the doctors but it turns out they are ototoxic and I don't think I'm depressed maybe a bit lonely but I feel it's the anxiety making things worse.

Thanks

Hi Coxy. I'm sorry you're more anxious post HRT. I suffer from perimenopausal anxiety too. It can be very acute at times. I take L - theanine, do breathing and relaxation exercises and talk to a chaplain once a month. All of these things help me. It may be a case of trial and error to see what works for you. If you can keep the anxiety under wraps as far as possible you'll be able cope with T better too.

Hi, what mg do you take of that?

One 50mg capsule per day. Usually in the morning. It's not the perfect solution but it helps and ultimately it won't do you any harm.

Hi I was told the tinnitus could be down to histamine intolerance so to tackle that in my diet before introducing hrt. Just in case it’s something you want to look at. Sorry if that’s not helpful.

Hello Coxy good advise from doglover, if you can get your anxiety under control you will be ok. Mirtazapine is what i took for my anxiety and it worked quickly and took away my anxiety away, good luck to you.

Hi Coxy00 Have you tried a strong probiotic? I know when my anxiety is at a all time high, if I take the probiotic at bedtime I feel better in the morning. Have you considered maybe trying hearing aides for tinnitus? This has really helped me when I get up in the morning, just the gentle masking device help very much.

Hope this Helps

Kim

No but I will! I am in the process of making an appointment with a Tinnitus specialist too for some CBT

Oh I'm so pleased you posted, this year I've been suffering awful anxiety after bad dental problems and lots of antibiotics, I'm 52 and had been taking plant oestrogens. But went without all tablets whilst taking antibiotics had a breakdown, started antidepressants which increased the tinnitus I hadn't even been really aware I had. Was thinking about going on HRT for the anxiety, not really suffering too many other menopause affects now, so pleased you posted don't think I will now. For the tinnitus I've been using Otovent nasal balloon and plantago drops from a Vogel which have really helped. I'm planning to do more exercise re anxiety but definitely making sure I get out every day and get busy doing whatever. Anxiety definitely worse mornings and I've been doing research as your oestrogen falls, so does serotonin and in the morning you get a boost of cortisol to give you get up and go, but when the others are low it can make you anxious, which is why it gets a bit better as the day goes on. Also discovered I'm gluten and oat intolerant, so busy changing my diet. Look up serotonin foods, Turkey, chicken, bananas, oats etc. Keep regular healthy meals, try mindfulness videos etc. It all really helps and keep talking to friends and family, online resources, places like this, keep reaching out, together we'll get through it x

How has the Plantago helped do you think?

Where I've got blocked eustachian tubes it has cleared them quite significantly, well until I got COVID last week x
