With most audiologist or psychologist good piece of advice, masking sound especially on earbud shouldnt be so frequent or at least have to set lower tha. Tinnitus so as to facilitate habituation.
Yet my tinnitus is so bad and loud that especially during sleep that I must turn it up to cover it
Really devastated

Hi, i have not heard advice before saying to be less frequent with sound therapy, actually thr opposite. the more time you give your audio system to focus on other sounds the more chance it has to kearn to defocus on the Tinnitus. I wore my sound therapy hearing aids every day, all day for over a year and this was a huge part of my habituation. As also suggested, the advice is to have the sound under the perceived volume of your T so you system can learn to defocus on the T. If it completely masked it cannot learn to defocus on it and will still see it as a threat.
In my view, sleep is so important and if you need to completely mask it to get some sleep I would do this as the benefits of sleep vs deprivation are too important.
Hi Vincent. What I'm hearing is that you're upset about your T . This is very normal at the onset. Agree with Darren. Do what you need to do to sleep. If you can sleep at night it's so much easier to deal with T by day. There are lots of ways to use sound therapy if you want to take a break from earbuds. . I used CD's of natural sounds - like rainfall or birdsong - for the first year or so. I only need sound therapy now for spikes. You'll get used to your T in time.
I was told to have sounds lower than T but could not stand it so I always had it higher than T that was in the early stage of T eventually I did manage to lower the sounds and now for the past 6months I sleep with out any sounds at all even though my T is still loud 24/7 it's all down to habuitation
