Hey everyone,

It's 4am and woke up to a new loud intrusive noise, sounds like a steam train best way I can describe it. I have my distraction, meditation on. I can't take this.

I have just about found a way to cope with the other noise low ringing. And now this i have young kids I am trying to be and act normal without it being to obvious to all that I am distraught and scared.

I seriously question if I can live like this.

Any help please πŸ₯Ί

Luv to all πŸ’œ

hi

Tinnitus can surprise you in many ways, I’ve had T for many years started 1997. At times it can be quite liveable just a whistling sound and then it changes to louder noises. I’ve had three weeks of tinnitus which has been great but now I have very loud T hardly bearable. Your tinnitus will change try relax to the sounds as being anxious and concentrating on it doesn’t help, I know it’s hard but you can live an be active with tinnitus. Your children will distract you, distraction is the key, go walking in fresh air and wind.

Hope this helps you, you are not alone. Jean

Hi Jean thank you for your reply.

I took your advice I have am making the most of today enjoying the sunshine with the kids.

I have to be ok and I will be ok just good to talk to people who understand especially when I woke to the new sound and the panic in me I just wanted to run out the house, fight or flight situation. I just hope I can live out my days enough to see my kids grow up.

Thank you Jean for sharing your experience and time to respond πŸ’œ

you are welcome, try to accept the noises it’s very very difficult it will take time, you need to keep active and live with the noises. Your children will be the best distraction you could have. You will be ok take each day at a time.

I still have bad days somehow I get over them, I use a masker also the radio helps to distract my mind away from the tinnitus. Tinnitus can change for the better which will give you a break, the key is to learn to accept your noises and not fight against them which will happen over a period of time, keep positive thoughts and live your life.

All the best Jean 😊

Hi

Only had it for since the new year and was told by the audiologist that there is no cure. Finding it really hard to cope with it. Does stress make it worse? Woke up yesterday to a different sound like being under water but back to a high pitched noise this morning. I’m desperate. Can’t cope with this for the rest of my life 😒

Hi,

So sorry for what your going through.

I understand he emotions your going through exactly what I have when the new sound appears which comes for a short period and goes.

Have you tried listening to music at night of flowing river, stream it helped me, I now listen to guided meditations just to help me drift off.

I wonder how I will cope too im 39 years old and have to learn to live with this 😭 have to act normal got young kids but at times inside I can feel the anxiety and panic kick in, I'm just trying to find my way.

I hope we all do.

Here if you need to talk πŸ’œ

Yes

I’ve bought a head band with ear pods in and connected to Bluetooth. I’ve downloaded the app white noise.

Very relaxing. Sends me to sleep. But still can hear the high pitched noise

Ravksβ€’ in reply toToilet82

Focus on to the sound your listening to whether it's white noise, meditation it will take your focus off the T. Try keeping busy in the day. Night is the hardest I know. It's something I am learning too

hi

Having to live with tinnitus is quite debilitating at times, I remember when I first had this intrusion in my head, I did everything I could think of to make it go away and live with peace and quiet.

It can be very stressful you are not alone, its hard initially to accept that there isn’t a cure, if you can start to accept the noises you will be less stressed about them, you need to distract yourself away from the noises as others have said. Tinnitus will give you a break at some point when the noises will be more liveable

I have accepted my noises which I’ve had since 1997, we are all different when it comes to accepting things especially when it relates to your health. I have additional noises some days, mostly they disappear

I hope this helps you

Best wishes Jean 😊

Hello Β Β Ravks Great advice there from Jean. Don't forget you've done this once before. You adapted after the onset so you can do it again. It's not easy I know. My T has troubled me more recently. Just slight changes are enough to trip anyone up. Try to keep calm and carry on. One day at a time. That's what I do.

Ravks profile image
Ravksβ€’ in reply todoglover1973

Thank you Doglover1973 for your reply yes your right done it once and adapted can do it again. Just the initial shock turns to panic , fight or flight. Just hard to explain to people who do not have T how hard it is to go through just the slight change in sound can throw you off.Thank you for your kind and positive words.

Hope your in a good place with T - acceptance is key as Jean said.

Thank you πŸ™πŸ½πŸ’œ

I might be going through similar . First T started 20 years ago . Took maybe 5-7 years before I didnt notice it . 4 months ago took Atorvastatin . The high pitch hissing is back. Got very depressed. Have tried all the old ways of coping , but not all work this time. However hoping it will quieten down again. Its a journey, just got to find the right road

Hi Kellythecat74

I'm sorry your going through this again

It's hard when you think you have learnt deal with T and then suddenly change of sound throws you back at square one. I have just got into bed and suddenly that noise came in my ear as much as I panic what can I do. Just hard process. Like you said just have to find the right road πŸ’œ

Thank you Ravks. Yes trying to get to sleep is the worse bit. I tried listening to crickets , white, blue, green and pink noise . but my best way is keeping my ear phone in all day and night . ( luckily ?? its only my left ear) ! I listen to LBC or any talk program on low. Have you tried watching Ben Thomson on youtube . He gives lots of advice. Staying calm is best but not easy .

Ravks profile image
Ravksβ€’ in reply toKellythecat-74

Yes I watched some of Ben's videos in the early stages. Keeping calm is hard at time, anxiety and panic kicks in. Yes definitely I have so etching playing at night to help focus on that rather than T. I hope we all find some kind of peace πŸ™πŸ½ meditation I try too. πŸ’œ

I was gardening today in the sunshine and thinking of you and of what my response to you might be. The sunshine, the birds tweeting, the sensations of gardening …. And the T wasn’t there.

So. Doing something nice outside is great and I’d recommend it.

Thank you Happy Rosie , yes I got out with my little ones in the sunshine just enjoyed the day and being out. Keeping busy is good way of coping. Hope you are well.

Thank you for reply and taking time out to respond means alot to me thank you πŸ™πŸ½πŸ’œπŸ˜Š

Just less than a year ago I found I truly habituated by accepting Tinnitus was never truly going to go away or turn off with the flip of a switch. I can now sit in a quiet place and listen to it with ease. Situations in your life may knowingly or unknowingly aggravated it. Those are the real problems you may have to solve to help the situation you are facing with Tinnitus. Equally you may have to accept them or do something positive. I found recently and had to do a reset - but with the help of my GP and a referral. Remember you are not alone.

Wishing you the very best.

So true daverussell What you've said reminds of the opening lines of a well known prayer .. God grant me the serenity / to accept things I cannot change; / courage to change the things I can; / and wisdom to know the difference.

Thank you Dave Russell for your reply. Yes something every so often will aggravate T recent work issues being over worked doing and the stress I feel is an impact something I need to look at. Something I must learn to accept and get on with it. Thank you for your reply and sharing your experience much appreciated for all the responses πŸ’œπŸ™πŸ½

I guess thats the problem , we dont want to accept it , we want it to go away . Eventually we get to the better place , but it can take a while x.

Thank you ,same goes for you . Don't forget I've been through all this before. Just cant remember when it all went quiet .It was years . Well today I finally got the hospital apts ..wow for next week. My doctor requested them in January. Audiology and Hearing aid department. Maybe its because I rang them up 3 weeks ago when I was having a " bad day ". Most of the time I'm ok with my walkman. Just got phlebitis at the moment , so that's taking my mind of the T a bit .Oh the road is long . Take care , you will get there .

Hello Ravks, just wanted to respond to show some (online) support. Sharing with people who understand really does help. It is a great challenge to be the better version of yourself with T. It is a very intense experience that others could never understand. T affects each minute of each day. Go with each minute...all passes...I really don't know what to write apart from, god bless; good blessings

I just had my sister over she was telling me someone we know has double kidney failure and after 3 months of dialysis nothing can be done, he will be turning 50 next year and has three children aged between 21 to 16 years it kind of put my life into perspective. I have to accept and adjust to T.

Many blessing to you and your family πŸ™πŸ½πŸ’œπŸ˜Š
