Custom Ear Moulds bespoke to your ears

I just wondered if anyone out there wears those bespoke fitted ear moulded ear plugs with a little filter pipe in them (so you can hear some noise) that you can have made from the NHS? Only I had some made up way back in 2009 (shortly after my T and H hell started) and I would wear the ear moulds at noisey events and I think they helped, however over time I started to notice that the ear moulds started to make this tinny noise when at a loud events? It sounded like the sound waves were trying to get through and perhaps were getting in a little around the edges of the ear moulds and that was what was making this noise? Of course I tried to stay positive and ignore it and hoped it was nothing to worry about? Has anyone else experienced this?

I use "Quies" wax ear plugs from the chemist. Roll them round in your hands to soften them up a bit. For me they keep out all noise. I can tweak them slightly so I can hear just a little bit .

I've got a set of custom moulded plugs with a filter that I used to wear when gigging.

Your comment about noise getting in around the plugs reminded me of a conversation I had with the company who made the plugs (it was years ago and I don't remember their name!). They told me that our ears change slightly over time and the plugs will feel looser.

I thought they were just pushing for me to do preorder at some point but I found they did seem to get a little looser over time.

I still wear them in noisy situations but they aren't as effective. They used to fit very snugly but now they are less so.

Can you get them checked or maybe a new mould?

Yes I’ve had my ears moulded up for a new pair, so just waiting on them to be ready. Just a bit worried I may have done more damage tho with the other ones now?!

Given my experience with moulded plugs I don't think it did any damage but it was uncomfortable at a noisy event.

Fingers crossed for you.

I had new ones made this year because the old ones we’re getting loose and sound leaked around, quite hissy.
