anxiety with Tinnitus

hi all, i need to ask. Along with the hissing T do any of you have your body which is all trembly and jittery, even vibrating? Or is it just me that feels this? I feel my body never feels calm, It’s so debilitating. I saw a neurologist a while back who found nothing wrong. So i don’t know why i feel like this.

Hi N - I am having jittery feelings in my upper chest, over past month since my anxiety increased and sometimes with a sort of vibration. In my case it seems to be because my blood pressure is higher recently. I am taking BP readings every day at home with a new Omron BP monitor and then will submit these readings to GP next week.

Check online or with GP about the meds u are taking - could these cause higher or lower BP?I am not sure but i think BP which is too low can cause these feelings as well.

Is this feeling you are having ,mostly in the upper chest?

I think your GP/Doctor needs to do some heart tests

hi Suz, my BP is fine, just had it checked the other day. My whole body never seems to calm down, even my legs feel a bit wobbly. And today the T is spiking quite a bit. So distressing

This must be difficult N - i do hope this improves

me too Suz!

since my T got worse last October. I’m seeing a top ENT next Friday, specialist for T - so will talk to him about my symptoms

Hi  Hidden I felt the same way in the early weeks / months of troublesome T . Very shaky and on edge. You're in a state of high alert so it's difficult to stay calm and relax. Anything you can do to relax - even a little - is helpful. These feelings gradually pass as you get used to the sound(s) . Hope you feel better soon.

thanks doglover for your reassuring words

Hi

I had the same symptoms for a few months after my T began and after exhaustive searching I believe that it’s your brain reacting to the tinnitus sound , it sees it as a threat and puts your body into fight/flight mode . This can cause all manner of symptoms , I had shakes and trembles from head to toe like waves going through the whole body , even hot flushes and palpitations . No one could find any physical reason for this and it all went away the same time I began to accept the tinnitus sound and not monitor the noise constantly or think about it 24/7 .

in reply toThreeminuteboy

thank you for the reassurance. Roughly how long did it take for you to accept the t sound? I try so hard to ignore it but it’s tough

I've had it over two years now permanently , the partial acceptance began after around 8 months in . Its always there but i get days when the noise is as someone said "not pleasant but also not un pleasant " For me personally the doctor called Julian Fellows Hill and his video's on Youtube taught me to look at T in a different way to the way I was . Stop monitoring the sound all day , you can't control the noise -but you can learn to control you're reaction to it . Don't stress searching for a cure or a treatment or a reason you got it and don't mourn for your life before T , sure that can't be helped but any negative thoughts lead to stress and that just make the T louder . Gp's Ent's and audiologists in the main don't know what causes T and have no idea how to treat it conventionally -don't get stressed out expecting any help from them . Don't google it or read other people's horror stories , instead do whatever you can that makes you feel a tiny bit good and keep busy and excercise as much as you can . I do fitness classes and however loud it is when I go in , during the class i can barely hear it because I have to focus my brain 100% on something else .

I love your response to Nanima- I'm coming to terms with it in the same way as you describe. Having hypnotherapy/CBT using visualisations has so far helped with the anxiety I didn't realise I had to such an extent.

Keep doing those things if they take your mind off the sound even for a short time , every minute you can get without tinnitus on your mind is like building up a reserve of fuel to help you train yourself not to react to it .

Hi. Have you had your B12, and other vitamins like ferritin, folate, D3 checked? Drs are shockingly bad at not testing these or treating them properly. I always used to get a copy of these results because they ignore low results if they are in range yet as we are all individuals who's to say that being low is ok for us.

I can only reflect what the others are saying. The worse symptoms for me are those cause by the combination anxiety and insomnia. With increased hyperacusis and vertigo, I could otherwise bear the incessant 24/7 buzzing. There's no substitute for seeking professional medical advice from your GP. My GP prescribed me antidepressants which have helped me tremendously.

All the best. See your GP 👍

which anti-deps have helped u Dave?

I now take Sertraline. They help massively with my level of frustration. I have better days than others of course.

I've tried a few including for PTSD several years ago. I could never find anything that worked for me. In fact I had to decrease my dosage by 25ml a few weeks ago.

What works for some may not work for others.

All the best.

hi Dave - can i ask, how long can u take the Setraline for? Is it poss to take long-term , sort of like over a year or more, Or is it just for a few months? Do the docs prefer patients to taper off after a few months?

many thnx Dv

daverussell in reply toSuz_2

It's been about 6 months. I will need to come off them at some point so I don't become dependent on them. I'm on 150mg at the mo. I have a monthly check up and have been up and down between 125mg and 175mg.

All the best

thnx Dave - I expect there are some people do take these for years.

I hear my T all day and all night - it was mid tone buzzing last year which i could cope with but became higher pitch this year and more solid sound and is much more difficult to cope with. If there was something to reduce the volume slightly to take once per week or so, this would be the answer for many.

All the time for me too. Though it's Hyperacusis and fullness that's the thorn iny side. The medication has helped tremendously, but only to help my level of frustration. It hasn't been a magic pill. I hope you find something that works. I believe much of it is about believing you can find resilience, rather than a hoping cure for tinnitus.

hi N - i do get lots of twitching of muscles of my eyelids this year and also sort o vibrations in the head when T gets more intense - do you any of this ? . Although this doesn't compare to what u are experiencing with body jitteryness

i don’t get that Suz . After all the replies i realise it’s the T and i really have to try ignore the T. Just wish i could sleep a full night

I've never been a good sleeper. Summer is worse especially the light.I swear by these and (I know it states exercise) they work as an eye mask.

Hi N - You have said previously, that you feel very tired in daytime and lacking energy , as well as this jittery feeling in body - I just feel the docs could do more checks and tests for you .

I took Zopiclone almost every day for 5 months which gave me 3 hours of what wasnt proper sleep , then about 2-3 hours of sleep - but i still felt very tired every day. When i stopped taking this ( which was difficult to stop) after about 2 weeks, I started to sleep just about the same hours but wasnt feeling too tired in daytime.

my sleep pattern can be quite irregular - i may go to bed at midnight one evening and the next about 3am in the morning and sleep longer in morning. Its just a case of getting sleep when i can - but i usually dont feel too tired in daytime

Hi Nanima, yes I have altrial fibrillation which is rapid heart rate. This ski side tinnitus isn’t much fun. I’m tired of living like this.

I have a PM for my A Fib. Since the recent onset of T, I do get my heart going a bit too fast . its the stress but I have to try and calm down . I'm already on 2.5 bisoprolol which slows the heartrate . now taking added 1.25 at bedtime .

SixtySix profile image

I don’t have a PM but take 1.25mg of bisoprolol and 50mg of Flecainide twice a day. Tinitus loud as ever.

Hello, I did have a tingling feeling in my right leg and foot in addition to tinnitus, but my DO was able to fix it with a sciatic adjustment. I'm not sure that is what you mean, though. Are you referring to more of what they call restless limbs?
