Visit to the audiologist

This forum is excellent. Any thoughts from anyone would be much appreciated.

I was referred to hospital by my GP in 2018 following several bouts of unexplained deafness.

I have had several ear irrigation treatments prior to hospital visits but GP surgery has stopped performing this.

My first hospital visit provided hearing tests (which proved hearing was good) but identified Tinnitus. I was introduced to the Tinnitus Society online and that has been helpful.

My second visit to hospital prior to Covid involved some excruciating and invasive ear cleaning but this did nothing to reduce my T which is akin to constant sounds of radio waves interference.

I now experience regular bouts of deafness in both ears, generally one ear at a time but once together. This was awful and debilitating.

Am I alone in this?

I have further hospital visit tomorrow but am not optimistic.

Any thoughts on similar experiences would be welcomed

I agree with you this site certainly is very excellent and you should find answers to a lot of your questions. This site has helped me get over most of my anxiety about tinnitus and in answer to you feeling alone, no you are certainly not alone.

other than what rabbits has said, I think your issue is the intermittent deafness and if you are seeing ENT or an audiologist that’s probably your best pathway.

Remember to write down everything that you need to say, so that if the doc tells you something unexpected you are not put off your stroke.

As far as earwax is concerned, like you my doc doesn’t perform an irrigation any more so I see an audiologist privately - at £60 per ear suctioned.
