Will there be tests or will it just be a case of them asking me what kind of sounds am I hearing. Will there be a confirmation that it is not something else and that it is Tinnitus?

Good morning . Let’s hope you get a good doctor in ENT dept. Yes all the things you’ve just mentioned . Hopefully they will listen properly to all your concerns . If they think it necessary to do scans then they will do . You will probably be referred to Audiology for hearing tests . Good luck. 😃

Hello Mixedsalad ENT doctor will take your medical history, check your ears and ask you about your tinnitus. Then they'll refer you for an MRI scan and / or hearing aids. This depends on the results of your hearing test. Mine was done the week before ENT but I think sometimes it's done afterwards. There's nothing to worry about - and I'm a worrier . It's all straightforward 🙂

I have just had my hearing aids changed through ENT. I was first prescribed them many years ago by tinnitus clinic at local hospital. Went back because I was getting a spike. Had hearing tested again, then consultant looked in my ears. I have pulsatile tinnitus as well as ordinary so he held stethoscope to my head to see if he could hear it. Made appointment for me at auditors get aids with ability to play white noise. They are marvellous. Still waiting for CT scan to see if anything sinister causing pulsatile.

Since pulsatile tinnitus is not real tinnitus but your ear picking up known vascular sounds, may I suggest that you look into this American-based but international group (a lot of Brits among its membership) for more information Whooshers.Com

Hi,

As part of my ENT appointment I had a hearing test with an audiologist which the ENT then reviewed as well as checking my ears and asking a lot of questions. In my previous post I sent this morning, please check out the NICE guidelines as this should give you some color into what they should be looking for.

The BTA did do a Webinar on ENT appointments which may be worth a listen (I believe there is small donation cost to view) tinnitus.org.uk/shop/webina...

As I had mixed experiences with clinicians prior to my ENT appointment I made sure I preperared and had the following plan (I believe there are more posts on the forum on preparing for ENT appointments):

Checklist to bring with you prior to appointment

- Understand how long your appointment is

- Have a list of questions you want answered

- Understand the NICE guidelines and especially they element where you should agree a management plan

- Understand your hearing test and ranges of hearing and T sounds

- Understand what follow on support and next steps are

- What about hearing aid options Bluetooth and/or noise generators

Hope this helps in some small way. Stay safe
