why is my Tinnitus so loud when I wake up in the morning

After having Tinnitus for nearly 3 years and learnt to " live with Tinnitus!!" what I can`t understand is why even after having at least 8 hours sleep as soon as I wake up my Tinnitus is so loud. I can understand that Tinnitus would be loud if I was not getting a full nights sleep but why after at least 8 hours. As soon as I get up and start my normal life the Tinnitus will settle down .

There may not be a direct connection as such, Bantams, with tinnitus and this time of day beyond it being the point at which the body's highest concentration of stress hormones are released, to help us get ready for an active day ahead.

Dr James Jackson, of Leeds Trinity University, who is one of our professional advisory committee members and has tinnitus/hearing loss himself, has researched this link and there's a story on the Cortisol Awakening Response on our website here -

Thank you Pat for the information, Dr James Jackson`s wife Sally Jackson runs our local Tinnitus support group in Brighouse and he does attend some of the meetings, the next time he is there I will ask him about my loud tinnitus when I wake up.

My T is very loud when i wake up - I wake up after dreaming and I believe dreaming actually increases the T activity for a short temporary time.

as we know it is essential that we have dream sleep and cannot be avoided - its just something we have to accept and manage

Mine is the same , always loud after i wake up and i always get 7-8 hours sleep . Interestingly my tinnitus began as i woke up one morning two years ago . Often by the time i'm on my way to work it settles down .

It could possibly be linked to intercranial pressure which is higher when lying down, especially if you have pulsatile tinnitus.
