The goverment
The person most responsible for my health is ME.
That’s why the doctors will always ask what I am doing to help myself - do I smoke? Do I drink alcohol and if so how much? What exercise do I take? Do I eat sensibly?
He or she is entitled to ask those questions because they are very relevant. They affect my health. If I smoke and drink too much and rely on fast food and I don’t exercise then I am soon going to be ill. So that’s why he or she asks.
I agree with you, deltec, GPs need to get back to seeing more patients face to face.
When patients are suffering, it can provide more relief to see a doctor and a human being in person, not just hear an anonymous voice down the telephone.
Last year, my GP practice stopped doing ear wax removal for a period. In desperation, I paid to have micro suction at an audiologists, and this was horribly noisy and has made my tinnitus worse.
Completely agree with you deltec and oldskir. I've had tinnitus for 4 and a half weeks now. Had a phone call from lovely lady at GP s surgery 4 days in who prescribed antibiotics. Not too worried at this point as had hope of cure (2 bouts of sore throat, sinuses. ear in previous month). Noise damage a possibility.I was advised to get a Specsavers hearing test. Audiologist was great, the only person who really listened. Contacted surgery online that day and stressed impact on my mental health. In spite of taking all advice online, I am not coping.
Waited by phone for rest of day. Nothing until following morning, a phone call about a phone call/ face to face in future. Accepted phone appointment, one hours sleep so reluctant to drive and quicker. Have an ENT referral but nothing re mental health/sleeping which I asked for. 2 minute phone call. Hanging on by a thread to get this.
A conversation would have made a massive difference. People that I know in real life don't understand. Even played masking sound which is louder than TV with headphones.
Mental health support should be offered with this.
