I’m like you, my T is quiet when I touch the pillow . Yes if I get up to go to the loo I think , “ oh it’s still there”. I am at the stage now where I think , quick get back to bed and lay down again !!!! I know how you feel it’s like we have some “ demon on our head”. Read the book called from Tyrant to Friend by Julian Cowan Hill. . It explains so much and about self help 😊
Hi Andrew. This used to happen to me every morning - and still does sometimes. I think the key is not trying to go back to sleep. If that makes sense. Now I just lie there thinking about anything other than T and more often than not I go back to sleep for an hour or so.
Mine get worse when I lay down a lot of time mine nose clears and I get a burning that goes up my nose around my eyes crackling in one ear ENT say the tube in the ear is not working to drain the fluid nothing they can do or won't do all I need is a grommit.
I think the thing to look at is the anxiety and panic response to tinnitus. Why is the connection that your mind makes with tinnitus fear and panic? Why isn't it, say, more neutral - instead of thinking 'oh great, another day of this buzzing and hissing', why can't your response to tinnitus be 'I'm annoyed by this, but it isn't actually going to harm me, so why focus on it?'
If your thought process can shift from 'this sound is going to make my day harder to deal with' to something like 'this sound might be something that I notice a couple of times, or I might not be aware of it at all', that's a perfectly achievable goal.
Doing as much as you can to break the connection between tinnitus and stress - that being aware of tinnitus is a trigger for you to become anxious about it - is definitely something that is key in many people's habituation to the condition.
