Hi I've been a "sufferer" for about four years and I still struggle with waking in the early hours with the T after going to bed in relative peace. Inevitably I search for possible reasons but, of course, come up with nothing rational. In the early hours it is very difficult dealing with the psychological effects and the induced night mares.Does anyone else have similar experiences?

Hi PJ. I've always been a lark so I'm used to waking at 5am but it's more of a challenge with T . It's so quiet at that time of day even the birds are sleepy. I believe T is louder when you first wake up too. There's a reason - TinnitusUKPat put up a link to an article some time ago. Perhaps he's still got it up his sleeve. I have early morning dreams just before I wake up - usually a result of any fears & worries. Hope this helps.

Thanks doglover1973, for me 5 am is still the middle of the night so I fight "waking up", which is probably not the right thing to do. Don't think I have any fears or worries apart from the T so a bit of a viscous circle really.

Early starts aren't easy if you're an owl .. Probably best to try and go back to sleep.

Hi I also wake because of T and find I have to get up to calm it down, I usually make a cup of tea, take it back to bed and hopefilly it will calm so I can get a few more hours sleep. Also have horrible vivid dreams.

The "dreams" are certainly awful to the extent that at times I find I question my sanity. I wish I could do as you do, accept it and get up for a cup of tea.

When this was happening with me I used to hear a book on audible with my headband headphones. Steven Fry reading Harry Potter was my favouriteas his voice is low. Generally, it eventually made me sleepy again.

You say that 'when' this was happening to you....does this not happen anymore? I seem to have the same thing happen Thanks

This is my main curse too. However, there is a direct correlation with how well I can withstand/cope and workload. I wear a speaker headband at night but T will compete.

Can I ask a couple of questions please?

Firstly, what is it hat causes such void dreams? I'm not one to dream much or remember them but my dreams since this T started are crazy....properly crazy and I wake up exhausted!

Secondly....those of you dropping off to your audiobooks....do you purposefully choose a book you're not bothered about? I'm having my favourite crime/police series read but I drop off and then have missed a hue chunk which it is impossible to find where I was upto so was beginning to wonder if I need to chose something totally different?

Hollyrain I believe that T generates a huge stimulation to the brain whilst sleeping that causes these awful dreams. Like you, I wasn't previously a dreamer. It certainly causes great tiredness for me through the day as I don't think the brain rests through the night.

Just to add : I find that laying my head down for a length of time is what causes my pressure that goes with T , and I too have more dreams with T , however I always thought these dreams are caused by our anxieties , not just with tinnitus but by the fact that I live on my own ( with poodles) , if we live on our own we don’t have anyone to share our fears with . I have to talk with my poodles, pets help to calm us down.

You know, I actually believe that unless there is a feasible physical explanation to tinnitus, the cause of this damned affliction is Stress, stress, and more stress.

A stress which is unyielding and relentless, and remains unresolved, makes you feel like a bear in a cage. In susceptible individuals, it may ultimately manifest itself as tinnitus.

I see Tinnitus as the spawn of this constant unremitting stress, and therefore, like the stress that gave it birth, T is here to stay.

I totally agree with you, rabbits65, that having an animal around is a life saver.

Very interesting post   pigeonCl-HU I'm deaf in one ear and so is one of my neighbours. I have T ; she doesn't. I've often wondered why .. I think you may be right. It's stress that makes the difference. My life is stressful; my neighbour's isn't.

Night time in bed is my worst period with T. I do wake up frequently during the night for loo visits. However, getting back to sleep in the silent hours is very difficult as my T hits peak pitches then. Without my hearing aids is the main reason. I’ve tried listening to sounds on apps but it’s never enough.
