Hearing Aids

I have recently seen an audiologist who gave me Oticon hearing aids. They are brilliant! They are controlled by an app on my phone and are very easy to use. They can play sound to help reduce T, reduce noise and increase direct sound (someone speaking, TV & radio etc) as this was on NHS They were free, it was just finding the right person. I can honestly say, I don't notice the T any where near as much when I am wearing them. If any of you are struggling it might be worth asking about them. I know everyone is different and they may not be helpful to all but it's got to be worth a try. I've had T for over 40 years and at times it's deafening and depressing, but I am hopeful. Have a good day everyone xxx

Sounds good, glad that's had a positive affect. I use Phonak but sounds like yours are a lot more functional. Glad you've found this and it's working

I also have Oticon hearing aids for my T from Calderdale NHS with 2 T masking sounds, they also have bluetooth which I can control from my iphone, also they supply free batteries, tubes and domes.

I have a audiology appointment on the 20th Sept. to review my hearing and my hearing aids, I cannot fault the NHS Audiology service I recieve.

Did the audiologist program the 2 masking sounds for you? What sounds are they? I have a masking sound programmed by my a? I wonder if the wearer can change it?

Hi, Yes the audiogist programmed the 2 masking sounds, ocean waves and white noise sounds, not keen on the white noise sound and may ask for it to be changed. Also I have some masking apps on my phone which I can use.

What kind of phone do you have and what app? I want to be able to change the masking sounds on my hearing aid.

Hi, Sorry for the late reply due to being on holiday in Spain.

I have a iphone and the apps are Widex, ReSound, Belltone and Oticon.

That is good news and it must be such a relief to get some respite from the tinnitus.

Best wishes

I also had a lot of success with the Oticon hearing aids which helped both my tinnitus and hyperacusis. I wore one for just over a year and it was a huge help.

Thanks for coming on here and sharing

Great to hear you're getting on well with the hearing aids. How do you go about getting them?

I had an nhs audiology appointment and they were offered. I've seen a few audiologist but have never been offered this before, so I guess it's seeing the right person. I would suggest asking for them.

Thank you for your reply. Is an audiology app different to an ENT one?

Loveclimbing profile image
Loveclimbing in reply toJennoB

If you don't see an audiologist in your ENT appointment then you can ask to see one. It's honestly about who you see and the treatments they are willing to try. I contacted the cava research project as I suffer from Meniere's disease and they made many appointments for me, all through the NHS. That's why I have put out my original post about the hearing aids. Anyone who suffers from T or vertigo regularly should be offered the same treatments. I hope you get some help with yours.
