Where is my Tinnitus ?

I listen through my ears to form ideas about what and where sound is.

No matter what I use to block my ears I can still hear my tinnitus, so it’s not there.

So ok it’s in my mind or consciousness..

I don’t consciously choose my thoughts, I become aware of them so as I am conscious of my T then perhaps it comes from my mind. I’m wondering if it is in fact the language of the mind :) something my consciousness can only interpret as a frequency but possibly it’s a language from some unworldly place, you know, that place we all came from and are all off to...:)

So although it interferes with my life here and now in this body, if it is actually the higher me then why not like it ?

Am I alone here or did you also have this idea ?

Interesting idea Villefranche 🙂 I think tinnitus is an affliction of this life only. One day - when we all get to heaven - there will be the beautiful sound of silence. Once more. That's my hope anyway .

Existential reasoning may be a helpful coping strategy.

But I definitely damaged my right ear with a cotton bud , so I know my trouble is physical . . I like your outlook , gives food for thought !!!

The way i look at it, is it is the pressure on the drum from the inside. If you think of an ordinary drum (as in rock band it deadens it if you put your hand on it. No matter how you try to put a speaker on the drum (just as your eardrum), the sound is nullified. Well, we can hear a tiny bit, but not enough. Your outer ear gathers the sound, but the inner ear picks it up (Or not, if you have Tinnitus). When you cross over all is restored.

In tinnitus support, we talk a lot about tinnitus being a signal which appears after we go through a physical, emotional or mental change.

So, using that framework, tinnitus can seem as though it isn't directly related to our ears - people report that it seems to occupy a place outside their head or to be localised to a particular corner of it, rather than rigidly locked in the ears.

A complication arises when our auditory system can't make sense of the external signals it is receiving, prompting it to begin investigating the problem by sending signals of it's own making, taking note of our responses to them.

If we hear a sound and don't seem that worried by it or are indifferent to it, our brain will view that signal as something it doesn't need to pay attention to. If our response to the sound we've been sent is panic or fear, our body's fight or flight instinct will kick in.

The way to stop that or get out of a high state of stress is to tell ourselves that this noise is not harmful, that it is just a signal, that it will calm down once we ourselves are calmer. That is often the sticking point - we find it difficult to accept that if we view tinnitus neutrally, if we treat it like an annoying fly rather than a terrifying murder hornet, that it will diminish.

'What if it doesn't go away?' is a thought that we often have. 'Why shouldn't it go away?' is perhaps a thought that we could try to have in the same situation.

Hi Caramel, not sure what you mean “audio Center’ I couldn’t find such place on google or YouTube. Harvard medical school have some interesting stuff re possible physical locations but it all seems a bit fluffy. What I’m kind of scratching at is the none physical location. Like the way we can see pictures without our eyes. If people can have visions from previous lives and the Anunnaki make us all partial aliens then perhaps these sounds may be part of our audio spirit. 😁

As I awoke this morning, with my tinnitus screaming at me. I kept my eyes closed and tried to stay in slumber for as long as possible. I find it’s like the land of epiphanies where there is some freedom before I’m fully awake and my ego has firmly established itself as my boss. Whilst there this little voice popped up and said hey it’s your ego. The reason your trying to tell yourself your tinnitus resides in your soul and your taking it with you is because it puts you in control. Makes you the boss, it’s yours and your taking it with you. Wow what’s with this ego constantly fooling me.

So I’m changing my view and thinking it’s actually in my consciousness because I’m pretty sure I don’t experience tinnitus while I’m in the land of nod, do you ?

Ok sorry it’s a bit of a rant. Seems my thoughts are scrambled, hopefully I’ll straighten up soon and get my s__t together.. I was watching some things last night about psilocybin and wondering if that might be helpful. Has anyone got experience with that ?

Hello, it's your brain that conjures up the noise, not in your ears, don't ask me how, all I know is that it's a horrible condition, it's definitely not from another unworldly place, I know it's not nice, but unfortunately at the moment there's no cure, just try an and mask it with white noise, ask to see a hearing advisor, they'll help you, good luck,Anne N
