Reclassifying T as non-threatening

Apparently this is the first step to habituation and getting on with life. But how do you manage to not feel anxious when you can hear it? It's still such an alien thing. I keep telling myself it's ok, it's not directly harming you, yes it's unpleasant but it's not stopping you from living etc but I still can't move forward after 4 months.....

Hi Angel_D

I think time and patience are the key. I was told to stop “worrying about” or even “Working for” habituation and that it will happen gradually without you really noticing it. Eventually there will be moments in the day when you are not aware of the tinnitus and then these moments will lengthen in time. The more we monitor the T and think about it seeking to evaluate how far we have habituated the more we will hear it. I hope that makes sense.

Angel, it’s natural that you’re distressed. But what barnabas has said covers it absolutely.

Hi Angel. I've had T for nearly a year and found it very distressing for the first six months or so. I couldn't stop thinking about it .. but gradually I've started to let it go. It was nothing I did consciously. Just an acceptance I suppose. There are still bad days but there are better days too. Hang in there. Time will help you come to terms with it.

Hello Angel ,I hope your alright, I can agree to everything the others have said. I think I’m at your level too, I’m very distressed by this time of the evening. I cope better first thing in the morning. It’s not nice at all but we have to learn to cope there is no other way .
