My Tinnitus spikes up often to a very high level when I wake up from sleeping. I can go to bed with it low and it spikes up and often times wakes me up. Does anyone know why this happens?

Tinnitus spikes up while sleeping
This is happening to me as well . I can go to sleep quiet naturally but during the night the tinnitus gets much louder and the only way going back to sleep is by listening to meditation music through the earphones. By 6.30 am the tinnitus becomes unbearable and have to get out of bed. This has been like this for a few months. The only explanation I can think of his subconscious dreams making it worse.
I don't know if this is because I'm laying down or because I'm asleep, but sometimes when it spikes way up around 4:30AM if I get up for a little while it will settle down a bit, but then is up again when I get up later in the morning. It can take a few days to go back down. Mine also reacts to noise, even normal levels of sound and that causes me to avoid it. I can't even watch TV except with sub-titles only.
My T seems worse when I wake. I have came to the conclusion that it takes a while to ‘acclimatise’ to the T upon waking after being switched off from it during sleep.... but who knows. The same things happens if I go from a setting where there is background noise, into a quiet setting. It takes a while to get used to the T. I would suggest that if your overly dwelling on the T when you wake and maybe panicking or becoming stressed, it becomes self perpetuating. I think the trick is to stay calm and ride the storm. Mine seems to calm down reasonably quickly.
This happens to me too and when I go to bed at night. Both are the worst times of day for it. Where it is loudest.
I am really sorry that you too are suffering from this torturous condition. I wish everyone here recovery.
Hi, Bapvd,
As regards tinnitus being loud on waking up (something I experience frequently) it has been suggested that the brain is like a computer booting up. It goes through various system checks such as whether you're hot or cold and if the brain associates tinnitus with your conscious state then it may actively seek it out to make sure it's "working" - and this may be why it seems louder or more intense on waking up.
If only we all had a built-in task manager that could "end process"...
Respectfully submitted,
Keoni
