It is possible to retrain the brain to ignore the noise as it is brain generated. Myself I find an ear piece stuffed in the offending ear with music playing over the tinnitus eventually makes the brain concentrate on "real" noises. Basically keeping the brain occupied so it has no time to generate the noise.
