Otomize

My tinnitus began right after I used OTOMIZE, an ear spray that was given to me as a prescription by an NHS doctor. There is also quite a bit of fluid in my left ear. I'm wondering if anyone has experienced T immediately after spraying Otomize... I stopped using it that very first night and am now relying entirely on oral antibiotics

You may have the tinnitus because you have fluid in your ear. Use the spray - hopefully get rid of the fluid and then hopefully you might find the tinnitus disappears too. Good Luck.

I`ve used Otomize on two occasions when suffering from ear infections. It never made my tinnitus any worse.

Thanks Lynne. My doc told me to rely for the time being on oral meds. I'll chat with him next week. All the best!

Hi, I have tinnitus and recently went to the doctor and she said I have fluid in the ear, I'v been given this spray aswel but afraid to use it as it could make tinnitus worse from what I read,I haven't been given any oral antibiotics, just a decongestant.did you have infection in both ears?

Hi Michael

It was a while ago but as far as I remember it was just one ear each time. I didn`t really worry about it making my tinnitus worse - I was more concerned that the infection itself would cause more hearing loss and possibly make my tinnitus worse. But I was fine and the infection cleared up.

I think all of us with tinnitus worry about taking medication but sometimes we just have to balance the benefits with the risks.

Hi JPaul73,

I had to use optimise after my ear became inflamed and it did not make my T any worse. Maybe its the fluid in your ear that's affecting it instead

Hi JPaul - I got prescribed Otomize because of itchy ears and developed tinnitus in both ears immediately on using the medication. I read how deafness and tinnitus is a side effect of one of its ingredients, neomycin, if it gets into the inner ear. My ENT specialist insists that it is not possible for this to be a side effect unless I have an ear drum perforation (which I apparently don't) but in any case I currently have tinnitus. Out of interest did yours calm after a period of time?
