I am experiencing constant tinnitus. I checked on line and tinnitus does not seem to be listed as a side effect for Eliquis. I see many people taking Eliquis seem to complain about this problem on line. I wonder if they have not yet discovered the correlation yet. It also appears there isn't clear information on the causes of tinnitus. I was wondering if anyone stopped the medication and if the symptoms subsided. I wouldn't stop it without talking with my doctor but this is really uncomfortable. I can't help but feel that talking with my doctor about other options might be a good idea

Hello JAQ- thank you for posting this question on the forum.

The side effects of medications being prescribed for other conditions are a source of concern for many visitors to our website, helpline and e-mail inboxes. The difficulty in answering your question is that tinnitus develops and affects people differently.

Some people will be adamant that their tinnitus flares intensely after beginning to take a medication, whereas others will notice no such thing or find the benefits outweighing the side effects. The response of the first group of people isn't wrong - it's their experience.

Talking to your GP about side effects of prescribed medications is always sensible - and take into consideration the timeline for medications to become effective within the body. This can take anywhere from four to six weeks - is it possible that your perception of tinnitus is greater at the moment because this process is ongoing?

Bear in mind that we normally classify tinnitus as a symptom - an indicator of a change going on within the body or mind - and that a flare in tinnitus may indicate that you are perhaps more aware of these changes as medication takes effect and gets to work on addressing an underlying health condition.

I hope that this helps.
