Hi everyone, I was just wondering if anyone had taken the antibiotic, Metronidazole or Nitrofurantoin ? I’ve not been to see the GP yet but wanted to be sure these are ok to take , with screaming tinnitus . I know aminoglics are a no no .
I’m just a bit paranoid with taking anything and it increasing the T .
Thanks x

Been to Gp today ... no temperature, therefore no antibiotics needed . Just a little frustrated that I have pelvic and and kidney pain but labelled with tinnitus , they look and treat you like you are a basket case ! ...... Naproxen perscibed ... I asked if these were safe to take with tinnitus , his reply was “ of course ! “
They clearly haven’t a clue about tinnitus, or the effects of Ototoxicity or any increase in tinnitus sound ....... The whole medical profession is completely , not “ in touch “ with severe tinnitus . I’m so frustrated ! Xxx
So sorry to hear that you’ve had a bad experience with fluroquinolones ..... this is one of a hell experience to deal with ! My confidence is in my boots . I feel like I’m losing the will to live ...... I’ve changed my diet , don’t get my ears wet , don’t go into loud places , don’t take any meds ....... but nothing works , to keep the screaming away from my head and ears ! What can I do next ? Xxxx
Getting worse,on my own i’d be gone by now but just had my first grandson and looking after the dog gives me purpose worst part of the day is waking up then its just existing for others.
I really sympathize with what you are going through as I have got it in both ears and it's really really He'll I use white noise like fans especially at night and down load free apps from play store like rain it dose helps me it won't help everyone but worth a try if you haven't try it
I am on antibiotics regularly because of a Bladder problem. Nitrofurantoin makes me feel odd and I have asked not to have it. I have had a number of the Pencillin group and these all vary but do not affect my ear. The best one for me is Cefalexin which is also prescribed for Otitis Media. It does however give me earache. My Pulsatile Tinnitus is still being investigated and is only in the right ear and mainly at night. I wish you all well and hope you get some relief. It is appalling that so many GPs show little understanding of Tinnitus. Onwards and Upwards.
Hi.........Ive been on Nitrofuantoin on and off for years, its the antibiotic of choice for UTI and bladder infections. Im not aware of it spiking tinnitus but I do know that it can cause severe lower joint and pelvic bone pain, there is a website specifically dedicated to the side effects of Nitrofurantoin. Keep smiling and lets hope the Irish team get their Tinnitus treatment to market soon. They have just issued this statement. "Following the completion of two of the largest clinical trials ever conducted in tinnitus; including 517 participants, Neuromod is now advancing towards initial commercialisation of its CE-marked product in Ireland and Germany, which will be marketed under the brand name Lenire™. " Best wishes.
Hi, I have taken nitrofurantoin twice in 2015, without problems. Had a UTI diagnosed by GP over the phone, prescribed 3 days 100mg nitrofurantoin 2 twice a day, fine that evening, and next dose at breakfast, then suddenly about 3pm in the afternoon flu like pain, so much so I could hardly I walk back to car. Forced myself to eat and rather silly took 3rd dose, can't remember the last time I felt so bad.. Called GP called me the next day, after explaining told me to stop taking and completed urine test, which I still awaiting the results for. My GP dismissed my lower limb and joint pain as not connected..... I have fibromyalgia and sciatica. She dais its just sciatica pain... Clearly not, now 2 days after last dose still feel like I've been hit by a truck.
Have you been to local ent dept? From there it’s usually audiology at this point they test your hearing and decide if you need hearing aid/maskers, forgive me if you have already been down this route, but it certainly helped me in my quest to get out of “ the dark place” I was in with at that time only one likely outcome, I also had a good gp and needed counseling which did help but initially I was to far “gone” to benefit, eventually everything came together like a jigsaw, it took some time I believed firmly nothing could help but it did the different kinds of support I received I am certain saved my life? literally,, good luck.
