Hi, I’m 23 years old and I have had tinnitus for the last 4 years. I really want to get braces as I hate my teeth but I’m scared the pressure of the braces will cause my tinnitus to get worse as it does when I clench my teeth together, put pressure on my teeth etc. I have been stressing over what to do the last week. Tonight I got that pop and ringing and it’s been ringing in my right ear the last 2 hours. Is this caused by me being stressed or is this permanent ? Hoping someone can give me some advice on the braces and if this spike will go away . Thank you

Can stress bring on a tinnitus spike ? And braces
Hi,definitely it can be more severe or intrusive due to stress, I'm having something similar at the moment and I'v started to get a fluttering ear drum and random popping and it's definitely stress related.
Thanks Michael
Hi Amleeh, i did a stress reduction course on Monday at the ENT hospital, this is what i learnt.... Stress put our bodies into a state of hyper-arousal, where our hearing and body giving us a surge in energy and a heightened response to threats, to this will also make the T louder, it there to protect us from danger, try and reduce your stress, breathing or meditation can help calm the body down...... Exercise is good too!!
Stress often makes tinnitus worse.
Do you clench your teeth a lot?
Yes I’ve been told I clench them in my sleep?
Clenching your teeth is often a sign of stress (I do it myself!). Wearing braces which help with jaw alignment might help you reduce this, and that might well help reduce your tinnitus. I know that sounds odd, but jaw issues can trigger tinnitus, and if they are fixed, the tinnitus improves.

Thank you for you helpful reply. Hopefully this may reduce my tinnitus I have no hearing loss and have really bad problems with my TMj also on flights when landing I can’t relieve pressure in my left ear and it gets so painful I wonder is this all linked 🤔 doctors and dentists are not helpful when dealing with tinnitus
hi NicBTA, iv suffered with T for past 4 years which i think was triggered by an assault at work (In mental Health) i was heavily punched to the (lower-back-right side of the head) i have also suffered from work related stress and still are going through a stressful period at home, have ground my teeth in the past and also wonder if poor dental treatment may have misaligned my teeth. Do you know if anyone has reduced their T from checking teeth alignment ? (i have received a punch to the jaw in the past which i didnt get treatment for but did develop a click. Also have others reported a reduction using stress reduction techniques ? my T can now be heard easily above normal day to day sounds.
Thanks
Your spikes are going to come and go. I had the implant put on and I didn't have no problem
Freddy17 how many times a year would you get a spike ? I’m 4 days into this spike now it’s like an electric static sound mainly from left ear it’s driving me to the point of breakdown 😔
Yes stress does do that. Try, if you can, not to worry over every new sound.
There are titanium implants that they drill into your bone. And then they and a crown on top
so I got my braces on they’re only on 5 days . My tinnitus does seem worse . The second I got them on I was listening to see if it had gotten worse. I don’t know is it actually worse or am I just paying more attention to it cause I think the braces made it worse. My anxiety and panic is getting worse everyday . 😔 I don’t know what to do I feel so depressed over this
