Huh???

Idunnowhattonameme profile image

K so first I wanna say I’m sorry for posting this on this page cause I can’t find any better pages. So pretty sure I have tinnitus but that is besides the point. If I’m out walking and look up at the clouds or stars or even just a bird to watch it I will start walking like I’m drunk. I sway and can’t walk in a straight line. It will sometimes even happen while I’m looking sideways??? Any ideas???

Hi, this sounds like a classic case of BPPV, we all have minute calcium crystals in our ears but in some people a few break free and float around over the miniscal hair in our inner ear . This causes dizziness and other symptoms ie - looking up and you walk like you have had a few. I know this as I have this problem for eight years . If you google this BPPV you will find a lot of information and a procedure called the Epley manoeuvre is the go too to help treat condition . I’ve seen ENT consultants and they recommend this , there are other procedures but some can make you feel sick ,also I have vestibular physiotherapy ( look this up too) . You can try this Epley manoeuvre your self as Ytube has several videos but it some thing you have to be very careful with and maybe try and find a therapist who knows how to do this professionally. BPPV can go away on it own but if yours is like mine it was driving me nuts so I did all I could , it’s some times reoccurring.

Mine came back in May this year and I’ve been having vestibular therapy and it really helps . Read what you can about it but avoid the horror stories , we are all different and it doesn’t mean you won’t get better yourself. I have tinnitus too , I think maybe the symptoms go hand in hand. Good luck .

Hello and welcome to the British Tinnitus Association forum.

This sounds like vertigo, and there can be a number of reasons for it, including an ear infection. I would suggest that you make an appointment to see your GP, and they can refer you onwards to your nearest balance specialist if necessary.

Warmest wishes
