Just need some support really. Been struggling for the past 18 months because of stress and now my T has been spiked by my neighbour’s car alarm. His car is parked right at the side of my house and his alarm keeps going off. It’s incredibly loud and after 3 times being exposed to it I’ve got new sounds in both ears. Each time it went off I left my lounge to avoid it until it stopped but it’s still managed to cause the new sounds. I’m exhausted but I can’t sleep. I was depressed and struggling anyway and now I’m feeling even worse. Didn’t think it was possible to feel so hopeless.

Georgia, I'm so sorry you have one more thing to worry about. You probably know that relaxing is the best way to get rid of the T. But I can imagine that this is not as easy for you at the moment. But try anyway. Don't let stress dictate who you are.I presume the noise from the refurbishment next door is finished by now. So that's a good thing. Can you chat to your neighbour about the car alarm? Maybe leave a nice written message for them saying that it affects you. I really pray you manage to get something sorted. 🙏
Thanks for the reply. Unfortunately the renovation noise is ongoing plus new ones. It’s been an absolute nightmare . I’m trying to meditate and keep calm but there’s been such a lot of major life events it’s become increasingly difficult so I could really do without the extra stress of the alarm. Unfortunately my neighbour is not someone you can reason with. I can hardly walk at the moment so I’ll have to get someone to put a note on his car. He’s quite a selfish man so I’m not optimistic!
Georgia, I'm so sorry it continues. It must be a monstrous renovation to take so long. Pity your neighbour is unreasonable and you can't reach out about the car alarm. But someone who doesn't sort a car alarm straight away, doesn't sound like someone reasonable to start with I pray it gets sorted somehow. I pray you find the strength to ignore it, although it seems you are already finding the strength to deal with quite a lot at the moment. Sending hugs. 🙏💕
Hi Georgia, I totally understand your dilemma and sympathise wholeheartedly. You don’t say if the alarm is at night thank goodness if its only in the daytime but annoying ANYTIME of the day. Do you work from home or are you retired like me? I too have suffered tinnitus for 30 yrs I suspect a result of loosing my husband to cancer. I have had test after test and now come to the conclusion you have to control it yourself. Don’t let it control you. Try having your radio on all day in the background, and focus on whats said and the music it really does help. Look back on my last posts about a new app you can download with lots of information from tinnitus specialists and calming mood music.
I hope the selfish person with the car deals with the car alarm have you left a strong note on his car perhaps anonymous?
Thanks for the support. I’m sorry to read about your husband. I’m going through a lot of grief at the moment and it really does affect the tinnitus being so stressed,
The alarm goes off day and night so it’s a real nuisance. I’ve had to move bedrooms to avoid the brunt of it. I can’t cope with the new tinnitus sounds. My sleep is really vital at the moment because I’ve got a lot of pain and i just count the hours til bedtime and the new tinnitus sounds are making it harder to get off to sleep. Anyway thanks for the support, much appreciated.
I’m sorry to hear your stress and thank you for your reply. Its not out of the way to ask how your neighbours are dealing with this noise too and as a group do something together. I live in a terraced house and have noises from both sides, walking up and down on a laminate floor one way and children running up n down the stairs on the other side, but my radio on my fav channel really helps. I sympathise with you regarding the car horn there must be a law that doesn’t allow this type of noise past midnight ask your local police. Good luck Georgia
hi G - do u have ear plugs and / or ear defenders . I have these with me at all times and use them when i am near loud sounds. These could help for these incidents of noise
Hi, yes because of ongoing renovations around me I have my ear defenders to hand at all times. I put them on as quickly as I could but my tinnitus has still spiked and got new sounds. It’s really scared me to the point of not going in my living room for the past few days because I can’t cope with another hit. But I know I can’t carry on like this, it’s no way to live
Thanks for the support. It’s appreciated. Yes I’ve been thinking about moving. It would be very difficult at present and a massive upheaval but I’ll just have to see how things go. I’m in Cheshire.
🌟 Dealing with Tinnitus: My Journey to Finding Relief 🌟
Hey there, fellow tinnitus warriors! I want to share my personal story of battling tinnitus for over 15 years, and how it became even more challenging after my battle with Covid and a two-month coma. I know that many of you can relate to the mental and emotional toll that tinnitus can take, especially when those dreaded nights come around and the noise becomes unbearable. It's enough to drive anyone crazy!
But guess what? I've discovered some strategies that have been a game-changer for me, and I'm here to share them with all of you. Trust me, I've tried it all!
Now, let's talk about this operation that was offered to me. Apparently, my tinnitus is caused by the erosion of the canal leading to my ear, resulting in a distorted thumping sound of my own heartbeat. The doctors mentioned that there were potential risks, including complications and even the scary possibility of a stroke. Naturally, I decided to explore other options and take control of my journey.
Recently, I've been fitted with these nifty earring aids that aim to distract and mask the sounds of tinnitus. I'm excited to see how they work and I promise to keep you all updated on my progress. 🥰
So, my friends, let's support each other on this rollercoaster ride. Together, we can find ways to manage and conquer this persistent symphony in our ears. Stay tuned for more updates and let's keep spreading those positive vibes! 🎧💪
