I have bilateral tinnitus which is worse in my right ear. I thought tinnnitus originated in the brain but when I lie on my right side on the pillow (I have numerous noises) a number of the noises virtually disappear and it goes quiet !! How is this possible if as I say the noise comes from the brain?

I’m no expert but from what i understand Tinnitus can be pressure sensitive, related to nerves and neurons in the dorsal cochlear nucleus. Hence why people with somatic T can manipulate the sound with head, jaw movements and by touching their head, neck and face.
As Knoll says, and he is correct, there is no doubt it’s phantom signals sent by Brain.
I’m 100% positive that’s my cause, because I had complete Obliterations in both ears meaning.
No ear drums, no Cochlears, no nerves, no bones, no hairs, just skin graft in entire ears, that’s why they classed me as Totally Deaf.
And I have Tinnitus 24/7 wakes me up, I average 3 and if lucky 4 hours sleep a night.

Tinnitus is generated in the auditory system, but as the brain "knows" sounds come via the ears - one side or the other - it tries to make sense of the sound, and "gives" it to one ear - or both - in some cases.
The sounds can be influenced by - for example - changes in blood flow, so there might be such a change when you are lying on your right side, which doesn't occur when on your left side, as we're not perfectly symmetrical.
