...and I'm awake, though I don't want to be. Tinnitus is around. I reach for my sound box. I select 'a good downpour'. Since T broke through in the last few weeks, the procedure now is to read for a bit - but its a bit chilly in the room so I opt to remain under the covers and put BBC Radio 3 music on instead. New to me, doing it that way since T. At 5 am I feel sleepy, so sound box off and radio off. And there it is - no Tinnitus. At least for the there and then.
One brain and two distinct noises to process did that, maybe?

We all meet our own challenges in living with T, but there are common patterns, and, for me, the lost hours of sleep are by far the worst symptom. I am fortunate these days to have the time to sleep in the day if I really need to, but I do that only in absolute desperation. A gentle nap is one thing, but a proper sleep with its associated metabolic effects is never good for me.
I am intrigued about the possibilities of manipulating our brain when it comes to coping with T. Could it be the very us, our essential, our spirit, can outwit our biological brain when needs must.
Maybe there are some people who can do that. Inevitably forums such as this rarely receive posts from those who successfully do that. YouTube has, of course, its share of more or less well known names who claim to have done something of the kind. It would certainly be a remarkable achievement to control it when we are asleep - who knows though, there are Lucid Dreamers in the world - perhaps they can,
I'm not keen on the idea that some can and others can't with the brain. It's not like saying some can't do a half marathon because they are not designed to do one.
The same happened this night gone and I managed to do it again using two separate noises. Again it took around half an hour but I did successfully stop T. The next step is to do it during the day. But I'm not optimistic with the difference that is a body at low activity at night and fired up during the day.
Hi,I read your post and empathised. I wake sometimes that early and if I can't manage to get back to sleep then that's it.
We are all very different and so is the T. What works for one person doesn't necessarily work for another but that is why we are on this support site so we can share a what we have tailored for ourselves and then share it. We can then choose to give it a try or not as any relief is better than none.
I had a very bad day yesterday because my anxiety kicked in and I lost control of my emotions so I had a panic attack as nothing was working and I seriously concerned about whether I could continue living with this. Thankful I reached out to my daughter who has stayed with me today. I am waiting to start CBT and have managed to centre myself again through deep breathing and meditation. Keeping calm is important but sometimes difficult to maintain when we sometimes loose control of them.
I wish you well and hope you build on your toolkit and pockets of peace to manage your T.

I wish you well. I'm not rolling over to T. We have windy wet in Gloucester today and I've exposed myself to it. No T. Well, not aware of it. I'm thinking here of 'body survival' mode. That is, the body concentrates on a more immediate concern, such as keeping dry and warm. There's scope for that in my experiments. Manipulate the brain.
As you say, it might work for some and not others. My T has not been caused by anything physical, as has clearly happened to musicians who are on this site. Tinnitus is too umbrella a term. Some qualifying needed if it can be qualified - perhaps it can't. I don't know as at now.
wow ! must try 2 sounds . Maybe the brain cant cope with all 3 and tunes out the T. Who knows . At least you found something that helps , even if temporarily. Havent used my ear phones this morning .Didnt notice the T much . Sadly this computer makes T more noticeable , so am off to get the radio. Good luck with more try outs . Going on holiday for 2 weeks , so will see if Mr T will calm down while I relax.
I don't believe T is itself a condition as such. I believe it to be a symptom. Once the symptom has been established, we can work around it as we do with the symptom that is pain.
I’m very interested and supportive of what’s been said here.
A word about sleep, though.
I did some research concerning sleep a few years ago, and would like to share the following with you. Firstly, it’s normal for your sleep patterns to worsen as you get older. That’s one of the prices you pay for a longer life.
Secondly, it’s normal for people to waken and then stay awake for some time. Don’t fret about it, just accept it. Some diarists like Samual Pepys mention it in their writings, and they found it normal. Especially in winter when lighting was by candles so people tended to go to bed earlier. They sometimes used the time productively such as lighting a candle and reading, or making love.
Personally if I’m still awake after an hour I get up and read a book. I get sleepy after another hour and return to bed. And sleep!
