Advice for tinnitus during gcses?

I have no idea what i am going to do for 2 whole silent hours in a exam hall

Bloody hell better you than me two hours of silent screaming. All you can do is your best maybe tell the examiner you’re condition or something but ether way I hope you do well. Good luck.

It's possibly too late now to get things set up, but you might be able to ask if you can bring in a fan for some white noise, or sit near an open window.

I'm going to signpost you to a couple of leaflets on our website, one for your teachers and one for your parents. Perhaps you can talk with them about what you might need, and something can be set up for later exams?

Hope it went ok for you. Surely if you tell your headteacher that you have T special conditions would apply for you. If my children had had T, I would definitely have let the school know.

Unfortunatey it came around recently and parents do not even attempt to understand so unfortunately I had to deal with it it went okay though thank god but I was so glad when it finished

So sad to hear your parents cannot understand ..... perhaps the friendly BTA people on the Helpline could offer advice on how to discuss this with your parents. Well done in coming through the exam and I truly wish you all the best. I well remember exam time with my children xx

Angela i have had a breakthrough with parents after showing the advice guide (helpfully linked by nicBTA thanks nic) turns out googleling things didnt help im lucky as i know health unlocked and only reliable sorce for me x

Yes it has helped me as I have been stressed and making my t horrendous but I was allowed during todays exam to use a fan.

I can't thank all you lovely people enough never felt so supported definitely helped 😊 x

So glad to hear this forum provides comfort in knowing that you are certainly not alone. Plus, it has so much sensible advice. Hope your half-term week helps with your studies. Keep a fan on at home. We have a fan at home (to get rid of pollutants as my son suffers with hay fever) and I find the sound to be very calming.

I will be working hard and with less stress and my t calming i can (hopefully) get more than 3-4 hours.

I knew every question on my science and maths so that helped

After the event now, but I tend to find that when my mind is fully occupied with something, as yours hopefully would be during an exam, I tend to be able to tune out or at least ignore the T, even in a quiet environment.

That said, if you have any other exams coming up, I would be definitely speaking to your teacher to let them know the situation and ask them to make adjustments to accommodate you. Common sense says you should be allowed to do your exams separately from other students with some sort of sound in the background - white noise or a fan or something.

When i was concentrating it was fine, unfortunatly i finished all the questions and had 20 mins to spare after checking my algebra (my only weakness)

And just had to sit there. It was horrible.

I use any background noise to distract me so to have basically no solid ambient noise i suffered.

I will have a word withthe examiner and will tell you all how it goes x

I have seen it firsthand what a lack of education did to my auntie bailiffs chasing her around and no stable future that scares me x
