Is there a genetic factor to thyroid disease?

I recenly found out that my father had a tumour removed from his thyroid, my sister had nodules which didn't progress and an aunt who was hypo and taking thyroxine.......I'm having symptoms which could be hypo .......be glad of any info.

Doctors usually say that there is a "disposition" to thyroid disease. However, there has recently been a paper showing that some people have a particular gene so it wouldn't surprise me if there is a genetic factor:
