I know this is a daft question for this site, but how do you put smiley faces and other ones into your blogs! (Here is where I need one!)
How to do a smiley face!!!: I know this is a daft... - Thyroid UK
How to do a smiley face!!!
Smiley and other faces are created by typing certain key combinations. Like this:
Smiling face = Colon followed by Close bracket
Winking face = Semi Colon followed by Close bracket
Laughing face = Colon followed by Upper case D
You won't see the faces when you type them though. they only appear after you've posted.
Yippee!!!
I forgot... sometimes we feel the need to use a:
Sad face = Colon followed by Open bracket
wonder how this will come out . . .
Wheeeeeeeeeeeeeeee!

Oops
Hahaha! As you've found out, not all variations work

Lololol! how can we try them out without littering the site? :? :/ ;x :R :! like that!!
I haven't seen the red face before - I like that xx
Could someone please type a whole page of them so that we can all try and have it to hand - will take me a long time to remember them all;}.
Maybe this one now :x.
Oh help - what am I doing wrong.?
Try resting your cursor over the face it should show you ;0
J_bee, It didn't work because you put a full stop after it
There must always be a space before and after the group of emoticon characters.
RA - any idea what the message was called? We ended up with loads didn't we!?
xx
)M:> Testing...
how did you do the crying one, lilliput? :%
is colon, apostrope and open bracket. Some of the link ones don't work, probably because they are Facebook ones .:/ . :(( B) OK enough...

I saw how many replies this post had and wondered if there was a debate going on - pro and anti smiley - but I see it is all cheerful experimentation and no grumping.
I used to really hate them but I now use them with the zeal of a convert. As someone who sometimes fails to infuse emails with a cheerful or positive note (my emails can sound unintentionally angry or morose), I find smileys very helpful. (Truth be told I prefer the text versions to the little animated ones, but I'll try not to let that trouble me too much.)
Nope, no grumping! (great word! lol!)
Sometimes we are just very silly!
More here:
Smiley = Colon followed by Close bracket
Sad = Colon followed by Open bracket
Winking = Semi Colon followed by Close bracket
Laughing = Colon followed by Upper case D
Crying = Colon followed by Apostrophe then Open bracket
Red (with anger) = Colon followed by lower case x
Tongue out = Colon followed by Upper case P
Surprised = Colon followed by Upper case O
Sunglasses (Cool) = Number 8 followed by Hyphen then Close bracket
Unsure = Colon followed by Hyphen then forward slash
YEEEEEEEEEEEEEEES! Thank you RedApple for posting this . . . now I don't have to try and hunt it out because I forgot where it was! It's now in MY questions! :0 XXX
