I am still suffering 5 years on from taking antibiotics. Have been told that some can lower your adrenal glands, which of course lowers your thyroid. Was told this by private doctor and also on this site there has been information given about Sulphonamide antibiotics. Don't know whether it is because they do not mix with Thyroxine or whether because our thyroids are low to begin with, they are then lowered even more. Was given Trimethoprim for a UTI, which made me feel terrible with all old thyroid symptoms back, and then to add insult to injury was given Tetralysal which added glue like deposits on spots caused by Trimethoprim. Am still suffering wth these spots, but seeing London Dermatologist at end of April who thinks he has the answer. I hope so! Janet.
P.S. Since Christmas have taken Keflex for yet another UTI, but this was alright. Needless to say I thoroughly checked this one out first and was still very scared.
It's always a good thing to take probiotics daily when you are on Antibiotics as of course Antibiotics kill all the good bacteria along with the bad. A very good quality natural probiotic is essential and free if you make it yourself.
Thanks phoebs, I am taking probiotics already. The problem I have with this particular antibiotic is more to do with lowering adrfenal function. Am just about to find out for sure at the end of the month and then I will post a blog about it.
