My cholesterol has shot up to 8 from 5.5 in 12 months I'm on 75g thyroxine. Could this be because I'm not getting enough thyroxine?

Hi there

It is possible, as another poster previously said....

High cholesterol is a sign of hypo but when you are on the optimum meds your cholesterol should begin to reduce.

There's lots of discussions about cholesterol, Statins etc. - if you type it into search or look at tags. Here's 3 which may help....

Most likely cholesterol and hypo are linked mine was around 5 when i was first diagnosed and when i said thats quite high as i dont eat fatty foods the docs told me that it was linked to hypo not to worry as it would drop with treatment of hypo

Yes - the first question deals with it: web.archive.org/web/2010122...

Hopefully it will resolve when you're properly treated.

Thank you everyone that is very helpful. I'm seeing the doc tonight and am going to ask what my cholesterol was before I started thyroid meds, they did a general test for everything a couple of years ago when my hypothyroidism was picked up. There was no mention then that my cholesterol was high.
