Hi If endo good they will test all the relevant things. Also they should not rely too much on blood results. I always take a list with me, for myself as a prompt, symptoms etc, some do not like being given a list or quotes from the WEB, wait until you know them better!
Above all , I have found , never stay with a consultant that you are not happy about, once you have established that you need a referral ,it is easier to get a second one!
Best wishes,
Jackie
I would be interested to know how you get on as I also live in Cornwall and live in the far West of the county. About 6 mths ago when I was looking for a referral to an endo (17 yrs on T4 diagnosed with CFS and looking for T3/T4 at the time), I was a member of another UK thyroid group who hold a list of known endos who are willing to prescribe either T3/T4, T3 only or NDT.
There was no endo in Cornwall on the list, but there was one at Derriford (won't name him on here), so I asked for a referral to him by name, which my nice GP did for me. When I got there he was VERY willing to prescribe T3/T4 and told me that he was the first endo at that hospital to do so, and that all of them there now do so.
The appointment was so early in the morning that I had to go the day before and stay overnight in a hotel as it's such a long journey from the far West. However I felt it was worth it. I tried T3/T4 but it didn't suit me. Since then I emailed him and asked about T3 only, and though he discharged me he was quite happy to write to my GP to let her know that I wanted a trial of it. NDT is a definite NO/NO though!
If you want to pm me I will let you know his name, should it not work out well for you at Truro. I rather fear that the endo there is probably mostly involved with diabetes and may not be so well informed or interested in thyroid difficulties, but I would like to be proved wrong for your sake!
That sounds great! All the endos at Derriford prescribe willing to T3/T4!
Could you pop the details of the endo you saw through to me by email please - thanks!

Just about to message you Louise.....
Yes - would be good to know how you get on Beaton. Good luck! I had a cataract op at Penzance - very good, but they were doing improvement building at the time, and I think it was done in the broom cupboard. Surgeon was superb though, as I was a nervous wreck.
