I'm reading a lot about the adrenals on here. Can they heal and what can help healing? (preferably without further trips to the GP!)

Dr Wilson's book is what you need my dear :0)

I've just googled this and found a very interesting site adrenalfatigue.org/ thank you!

I found that site helpful too. You won't get any help from a GP, I'm afraid. They know about Addison's disease, but not really the type of adrenal fatigue we are talking about.

I had a very good GP once who gave me lots of tips. She was a "think outside the box" GP and was slightly unconventional but never let on. A few years ago she advised me to do an awful lot of the things recommended for adrenal fatigue due to how I was feeling. I now believe that she knew about adrenal fatigue but knew it was not generally accepted by the medical profession. She was a bit like that and was truly excellent. She was prepared to listen to her patients for however long it took, so if you went to see her you had to be prepared for a wait sometimes, but her patients didn't mind :) Unfortunately she retired.

I was thinking my GP wouldn't be very helpful which is why I would prefer to go the self-help route as much as possible. I'm pleased you also recommend this site.

How I wish all GPs were like the one you describe. It must be so frustrating for the good ones. The good ones should never be allowed to retire! :)

CarolynB, you can't tease us like that!! Can you pass on any of those wise tips and did they work for you? I got a Genova saliva test done and my adrenals were practically flat-lining. I'm using low dose hydrocortisone at the moment which works, but isn't the natural solution I want. I'm going back to reviewing Dr P and Dr. Wilson's books, but in the immortal words of Tesco...every little helps!

So sorry, lol! I mainly rested with my feet up whenever I was tired (I was not working at the time). I avoided sugar like the plague and ate a high protein diet of unprocessed foods. I also too Nutri Adrenal, other vitamins and mineral and high dose vitamin C. To help with sleep (very important for healing adrenals) I took 400mg magnesium citrate.

One of the most important things it to make sure you get rid of any stressors in you life.

Late mornings and early nights are also important. Avoid caffeine, alcohol and nicotine whenever possible.

I'm sure there was more but can't remember.

Laughing is important! Watch a good comedy if you are resting with your feet up but aren't tired enough to sleep :)

Thanks for that! Although not much chance of resting with my feet up in front of the box tonight at least. My hubby has been watching the England match and shrieking, yelling and muttering out loud. I am soo stressed and agitated as a result lol!

Lol. My husband has been the same this evening :D

yes! he's the man to go to Re adrenals. I could save you money going to see someone for them. You have to follow the book to the T though. The adrenals are quite unforgiving.....i find.

I'll be having a good browse around here then. I don't think I've got a major problem, but want to make sure I'm not doing any more damage. :)

The first port of call is the adrenal stress test then. Be sure there's a problem or not.....

in reply tosporty333

OK, I'll look for info on that first. Thanks :)

Hmmm. I collapsed in the street after having an adrenal stress test (with all the symptoms I'd been complaining of), but, guess what? The test was NORMAL!

sporty333 profile image
sporty333 in reply toAngel_of_the_North

Yeah but what caused this collapse?

Angel_of_the_North profile image
Angel_of_the_North in reply tosporty333

I assume the stress of the test, since that was the only thing I did that day. I had the test because of dizziness, nausea, fainting low BP, headaches and inability to get up off the floor (and failing the short synacthen test), and within 10 mins of the end of the test, there I was, lying on the ground with all symptoms. Personally, I blame the disgusting flat lucozade at the end. Foul stuff! I think you have to have full Addisons or Cushings before the NHS will do anything. Anything else is normal.

This has a little home testing you can do. I don't know how valid but I really failed the white line test. Let me know if you do also, if you wouldn't mind. Other good tips as well.

Hi Heloise - yes I've also failed the white line test!

The site looks interesting. I like the comment on there; 'you are your own best "health care provider". This is what I need - useful tips on how best to support and heal. And I'm loving the orders; 'eat a lot, sleep a lot and don't work too hard'! Oh yes!

Thank you for this - I will take a close look at all the info after work today.

Are you following the tips and is it helping?

I'm a slow learner and after many years.....hmmm, maybe my adrenals are involved. I haven't done the saliva test yet to know for certain but I have decided to use the adrenal gland supplement along with licorice root (if it doesn't raise my blood pressure) and Siberian Ginseng. I used to take both of those years ago and did notice some benefits.

I think it's wise to look at several sources anytime we self-doctor. But it is nice to know we can do something for ourselves. I wish you well.

in reply toHeloise

Thanks - its useful to have your opinion. I agree that its always a good idea to do the research before taking the self help route. I don't think I have any serious issues, but I want to support my adrenals - therefore also my thyroid - as much as possible.

Best wishes to you also. x

Hi I'm beginning to think my adrenals may be the problem. Have had two adrenal saliva tests done over the last 10 yrs and both showed problems there. Early 2000 I took Nutri Adrenal for 2yrs and it really helped and then again in 2010, but it didn't help as much then. That was before I started on thryoid meds which only came about in 2011 and clearly I needed these by then. Trouble is I am on NDT and was doing really well, but having got to two and three quarter grains my Free T3 is now high, out of range and my Free T4 upper range with TSH suppressed but I am having aches and pains again and slight trembles. I'm out of breath again going upstairs which I haven't had for a long time. If I reduce dose I feel terrible. Am going to order a saliva test and see what is going on.

I've read the info on SSTM site and TPA UK about treating adrenals whilst on NDT, but still not sure how to go about this if my test shows I need some help. Anyone been in this position before?

in reply tozizi

Hi Zizi. I'm new to all of this and I can't help - it may be worth posting a new question.

Best wishes

Liza

Thanks LizaSahara for getting back to me. I still feel new to a lot of this so you're not alone! Have come a long way with NDT meds, but something just isn't quite right. I will post a new question.

:)

in reply tozizi

I'm on levo and improving - but things are not very stable yet. I will be interested in reading the answers you get.

Ok no problem. I'm asking about B12 and iron at the moment, but will post one about adrenals shortly. I started on levo and was pretty good until I got to 100mcg and although it sorted quite a lot of symptoms I just couldn't get rid of the terrible anxiety and fearful thoughts which were crippling. I tried levo and Erfa, but felt terrible and then went to Erfa NDT on its own. Has taken 9 months of slowly increasing, but real improvement. Anxiety much improved so far. Just having a bit of trouble now I have reached 3 grains so looking at other areas that may be still needing attention. I know a couple of others are experiencing the same so it would be good to open the question and see if anyone can help.

:) x
