An email from Dr Wilsons office on adrenals....

Hi Simon,

Dr. Naugle wrote a blog on that very question, which I think you will find

helpful. Here is what she said:

One of the biggest problems I encountered in my practice while working with

patients with adrenal fatigue is that as they started to feel better, they

would think that the supplements were no longer necessary. They would try

and discontinue them too soon and then would be back in my office with the

same problems as before. People vary in the time it takes their bodies to

recover. Often, someone begins to feel better within a few weeks or months,

but typically, it takes someone about 6-9 months to fully recover from mild

adrenal fatigue, 12-18 months for moderate adrenal fatigue, and sometimes it

can take 2 years or more to fully recover from severe adrenal fatigue. If

you continue to be under extreme stress, you may need to support your body

for a longer period of time. However, barring an extreme circumstance, you

should not need to be on supplements that support your adrenals for the rest

of your life.

Recovering from adrenal fatigue takes time, but it is possible. Good luck!

Hope this helps - thanks for your question!

Thanks for this! I totally agree and don't understand why I hadn't realised this was happening to me! I had gradually been feeling better and better and thought I was recovered, but now I do have signs returning. When I think about it, I may well have been recovered but since then I have started a full time job, I'm still volunteering on here and I'm still doing karate and teaching it too.

I may have been recovered but now my body is having to handle so much more. Perhaps it is time to take this seriously again while it is still mild.

Thanks for pointing out what should have been obvious to me but clearly wasn't! Now that you've given me the proverbial kick up the behind I will get on and do something about it!!! I can't believe I didn't realise this.

Thanks again :)

Hi Caroline, I did the same as you and then got 'cold feet' about taking the NA after being moaned at by endo. I tried to go back on it again but after only 3 days of lowering thyroxine I bagan getting bad reflux and couldn't keep it up. Do you think I could just start supplementing straightaway with the NA without lowering thyroxine?

That might be a good idea. Is the reflux due to low stomach acid? If so, you might want to try dissolving ascorbic acid powder in some water and drinking before each meal. It is just vitamin C in powdered form but helps increase stomach acid so that you can digest your meals properly. Also vitamin C helps your adrenals to recover. It might be worth looking into :)

Think my adrenals are not too bad at the moment as temperature is just about right and I do seem to be digesting alright. It is just when I lower thyroxine I get reflux, but will try the vitamin C powder as I have some in the house. Thank you for your tip and sorry for hijacking your post Simon, also thanks for the information - always welcome. Janet.

Yes Caroline! You don't want to slip back into I'll health again!! God forbid!

How long did it take you to recover your health from adrenal fatigue?

I think it took about 6 months. I did rest and sleep a lot. I was quite fanatical about resting several times a day in a horizontal position and all the other stuff that goes with recovery. I can't do that now though so I really ought to get on top of it sooner rather than later!
