Drowning in Brain Fog.

Hi Everyone, I thought I'd tell you my "funny" story about what happened to me on the long drive to see Dr Skinner last week. It's a two hour drive but I always take another 20 mins for tractors on the road, and people driving 25 miles per hour in a 60 mile an hour zone, argh!

I was doing quite well with the journey, no floods, diversions, tractors etc etc. My car was absolutely filthy, it had been 3 months since it was cleaned. Living in the sticks there are copious amounts of mud everywhere, flood waters, cow poo, you name it.

I parked my car to get the token, mistake number one, I hadn't applied the handbrake, and my car was moving towards a parked car................ Mistake number two I pressed the switch down for my drivers window to open so I could pull in the wing mirror, I must have pressed the back one too. When the brushes and water were coming back up towards the front of my car, my head and shoulder started to get very wet!!! I looked behind and my car was full of water! I drove with the heater on full and the windows open to try and dry it out! I arrived more dishevelled than usual :-((

This goes with leaving the electric hob on for hours, many times now, putting the knicker and towel wash in with some dirty dusters I'd loaded and forgot in the washing machine, and burning my porridge every morning, ZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZ

I am sure when Dr S saw you he thought "this woman needs help'. I am sure your appointment went well and that you got home safe and sound.

I must admit my mental clarity has gone somewhere else even although I feel very well on my meds. I think many of us can sympathise.

Hi Shaws, Yes he acknowledge how poorly I still am. I'm now taking a combination of NDT and Levo, Dr Skinner really wants me on T3. He's writing to the Endo I haven't yet have an appointment with to consider prescribing T3.

Apart from no energy etc etc, I'm worried about my double vision. I'll put that on questions.

Thanks Shaws, sorry you're suffering too, appreciate your reply. X

You have made me smile - could just picture myself in the same situation. But joking aside I told my GP only last week that due to brainfog I was dangerous on the road and she looked at me with a look of disbelief on her face.

I wish I had a magic wand - I would magic ALL doctors to have major thyroid symptoms for a day, expecially the brain fog, to see how they coped. I think you'd find operations cancelled, clinic cancelled and the NHS ground to a stand still.

Yes Moggie, that is such a good idea!! No a week at least though, and while they are obviously suffering we can tell them there's nothing wrong with them!

I'm fighting staying awake by 11am most days. I think hypothyroid is like being drunk, having flu, having learning difficulties, plus mental distress thrown in. can you honestly see them coping with all that lol!!

Oh yes that would be a wish worth doing. Id expect sudden changes to occur then.

Of all the symptons the brain fog I struggle with. I can laugh now, at the time I stood there crying my eyes out as I couldnt remember how to open a drawer. I've put the washing in the freezer, Gone out to do some shopping, then finding out Im still in my slippers. Now keep spare shoes in car just incase.

Poured the kettle into the dishwasher instead of my cup.Started tomake a cake and wandered offf then hours later wondered who made a mess in the kitchen and why was their a bowl of half cake mix sitting on the side. Given the dog my breakfast and went to sit down and eat theirs. They dont mind but I do object to eating theirs. Took the dog to school only to remember at the gates, dogs dont go to school and my kids are past school age. The kids now roll their eyes when I call them by the dogs name. Told my daughter to go wee wees or poopy and opened the back door for her to go. I couldnt see what was funny as she stood their laughing. So far not taken the kids out for walkies instead of the dogs.

Hi Ravenhex,

It sounds mean, but I'd love to be a fly on the wall!!

It's a relief to hear others are like this, but not very nice to live with. I thought I was getting early dimentia, I'm also getting a bit OCD because I can't trust myself anymore. This usually involves checking the front door is locked umpteen times, same with my car. When I make a purchase I keep checking I have my bank card in my purse. It's so easy to get anxious.

Some of the things we do can be very funny when you look back, but at the time so frustrating and time wasting.

Sending you a hug!
