Is tonsillitis associated with thyroid problems? I've had it twice in 3 weeks? Feel very run down and awaiting treatment for hyper.
I think so, I used to have tonsillitis twice a month for 6 months in a row so much so I got them taken out (15 years ago at age 28), but I am hypo not hyper......still it's a 'thyroid problem'

Abstract
Out of 715 patients with thyroid disorders chronic tonsillitis was detected in 23.8, 35.5, 43.1, 45.7 and 52.1% of patients with euthyroid goiter, hypothyroidism, autoimmune thyroidism, subacute strumitis and diffuse toxic goiter, respectively. In hyperthyroidism chronic tonsillitis ran with severe clinical symptoms, in hypothyroidism it took a latent course. Tonsillectomy was performed in 118 patients. In patients with diffuse toxic goiter and subacute strumitis there was abnormal intraoperative bleeding and postoperative pharyngeal reactions, in those with autoimmune thyroidism and hypothyroidism reparative activity was low. Timely tonsillectomy favourably influences the course of thyroid diseases and prevents goiter recurrence after its surgical treatment.

Yes. I get it frequently too. That area is automatically your weak spot, close to thyroid, etc. A private GP once explained it to me really well. NHS Gps will tell you there is no connection.
