For anyone suffering mysterious symptoms, despite thyroid treatment. It's the explanation why B12 deficiency is missed. Don't miss this.

The Deputy Chairman of the BMA Dr Kailash Chandy OBE has tweeted it ! Let's hope our GP's are tweeters too!

Thanks, auldreekie, riveting video, thank you so much. More than interesting to see the people who figure in "Could it be B12?" by Sally Pacholok and Jeffrey Stuart tell their terrible stories and to see JJ, whose diary in his own words is in "Pernicious Anaemia: the forgotten disease" by Martyn Hooper, chairman and intitiator of the Pernicious Anaemia Society.

I got started on B12 afer BBC Radio 4 program 'Inside Health' mentioned Martyn Hooper and the new Active B12 test at Guys.

I just can't help thinking of all of the unnecessary suffering. I lost my Mum last year, she had dementia and was on a lot of those drugs (I knew statins were a problem but I didn't know about Metformin) She was also on folate....

Lets hope our GP's get the message soon.

That was a great informative video. I do have P.A as well as hypo and my mother died through neglect by her GP.

I am sending this video to everyone I know.

Brillian Shaws! The GP's aren't going to know what has hit them!

Glad you got diagnosed though, were you well informed or did you get lucky with a good doctor?

Sorry to hear about your neglectful GP - I bet he is still a GP though?

My Mother was on her injection since she was 52 plus folic acid. After about 18 years her GP told her her bloods were fine now and didn't need any more injections but to keep taking folic acid. Both my sister and I said 'that's great' little did we know. Eventually, despite going to the surgery frequently no-one queried the GP's decision (nurses etc) and she died of stomach cancer.

Myself, I have regular injections and always about 1,500 to 2,000. In Nov '11 it was 389 and I told my GP that was unusual for me but he insisted it was normal range. He wouldn't give me a referral letter for an Active B12. I said I cannot be in the normal range as I have P.A. anyway I started on sublingual too but my range was still about the same this year but another GP has given me a referral for Active B12 so am waiting as I just had an injection and B12 still not above 500.

I was fortunate to have a great specialist who did all sorts of tests for another complaint and discovered I had PA.

Thyroid UK have Martyn's book available for sale. I'd post the link but can't get on the TUK site right now for some reason.

Did you know that you can Facebook like and also Tweet open posts on this site? Just under the original post you should be able to see 'Tweet' and 'Like'. :-)

So does thiroid disease cause vitamin B12 deficiency .....or does vit B12 cause thiroid disease?

in reply to flatfeet1

Hi flatfeet

Could you post this as a new question? I'd be interested in some of the answers and I think this will be lost if it stays in this thread...

The problem is some/most thyroid disease is autoimmune which means other body systems are affected. The situation for B12 is the production of the required enzymes from the pancrease is impaired and proteins (WHERE MOST B12 IS FOUND) opps sorry for the caps njot shoulting just rushing! can't be digested properly.

Everyone needs to watch this - and ALL doctors & med students especially.

If every person on this forum emailed the video link to JUST ONE GP, endo, neurologist, psychiatrist, psychologist and learning specialist, you would start a revolution (heh,heh-I adore revolutions!)
