How do I lose weight? I don't eat junk but I have a underactive thyroid
Hi Lala, well, this question crops up about once a day - there was one earlier - so if you scroll through the blogs and questions you're bound to come up with some info. If not, try using the search box in the top righthand corner.
But the short answer is: get your thyroid meds optimised. Having an underactive thyroid makes many people put on weight - like me! - but all the diets and exercise programmes in the world won't help unless you have enough thyroid hormone in your body for it to function correctly.
Sorry I can't be more helpful, Grey
Hi My endo always advocates the diabetes diet, see WEB but basically not too much fruit or protein , lots of green veg.. ,a very specific bread, wholemeal with seeds etc and not much. Wholemeal rice and sweet potatoes not normal ones. Also make sure you have your Free T3 checked, this is often the cause of weight gain ( too low) and then T3 on a script will work miracles, also lowers TSH.
Good luck with it all.
Jackie.
Try a couple of weeks wheat free and see if that helps - after 6 - 8 weeks wheat free my clothes are a lot looser and my stomach is not so big.

Can I suggest you check the wholemeal bread (anything actually) that it does not contain soya as this is considered a NO for those with underactive thyroid. Good luck...
The best is optimum thyroid treatment. However...I am doing the 5:2 and have lost 2lbs on each fast day. If this carries on then I'll be one very happy woman. I would not say that I have enough thyroid replacement but I reckon that I am close - 120mcg T3.
