Does anyone suffer from hot flushes that are no... - Thyroid UK
Does anyone suffer from hot flushes that are not menopausal? If so can you suggest any effective remedies other than tearing clothes off?
The doctors told me I was in menapause then said I was,nt! But when they initially said I was I took agnus cactus and black cosh and the sweats stopped in 2 days been on them 2 year now and I no when iv forgot to take them...... Think iv only forgot abou( 3 times, wud.nt be without them now. KIRA I think brand is, hope this helps
Thanks for the suggestion, but I have a feeling agnus castus is off the menu because of having breast cancer...but I'll double check that.
Hello Sue, I was having alternating hot flushes with feeling freezing cold and I belive it was because i wasn't converting levothyroxine very well. The things that helped were - to keep my middle bit warm! Two pairs of knickers, a japanese tummy wrap (like a boob tube round the waist), a long vest type teeshirt to tuck into my waist band. And then thin layers on top that can easily be peeled off. Erm, no not particularly sexy lol. Also I have started wearing clothes that keep my neck warm. I have also started using a progesterone cream and some adrenal supplements (like nutriadrenal). Have worked hard on getting stress levels down. When you are doing so many different things to try and be well it is hard to isolate exactly what has caused the improvement but I do think that keeping your middle warm (in bed at night too) helps to stabilise your temperature. Just my experience anyway
Thank you oktoday - you certainly made me laugh...which always helps! Unfortunately, I'm not allowed progesterone cream for the same reason as the agnus castus suggested by hotcherry above. I suspect the cause may be adrenal and have just sent off my saliva samples.

It could be a symptom of adrenals, you could take a saliva test and see if that is the problem and then treat with NAX
Yes, I think you're right fennel, and as mentioned above, I'm awaiting the results of my saliva test.

Hi It could be any hormonal problem, eg Thyroid undertreated, gall bladder or pancreatitis ( pain also with last 2 ) and especially diabetes.I have been like this with all of these things. very rarely it can be more serious so safer to have medical advice after blood tests. mine were definitely not menapausal but heart certainly caused some of them them So you see it is a matter of ruling them out first.

It's the usual story though - docs just don't take it seriously.
Sue, know , I kept saying that I was diabetic, I was borderline 20 years, thin! My last diabetes blood was refused, then I kept telling the GP it was bad. In the end I was very ill and had to diagnose myself and phoned my wonderful endo for help. Lots of stories like that. So, keep fighting!

Hi Sue
yes I suffer this now for 2 years and have asked GP + Endo for help!! when I managed to see the Endo he said Go back on HRT for a few months!! but before they told me I had gone through the change. Well I am trying the HRT at present but it is not changing the problem so far! I really hope that you find a cure,Please let me know.
Regards wakeham.
HRT probably will solve the problem for you Wakeham, but I can't take it because of breast cancer. However, I wouldn't recommend staying on it for long, as I'm convinced long-term use of it contributed to, if not caused, my cancer.
Regards
Sue
I am really bad with sweats when i am active and also had night sweats, now on HRT night sweats gone but other just the same.
Im 35 and started getting hot flushes sweats and then freezing cold very suddenly when i started taking low grade levothyroxine. The sweats were crazy running down my head! im not menopausal and have had blood tests showing im not peri menopausal either. If your on Levo maybe you on the wrong dose? My GP did not understand these symptoms and had no explanation but i had loads of other symptoms on levo too: palpitations/ fast heartbeat, insomnia, utter exhaustion and severe depression
Thanks - that's extremely interesting. As it happens I'm not on any thyroid meds at the moment - I tried everything in every conceivable combination, but had the same sorts of severe symptoms as you, so stopped taking everything and found I felt no worse unmedicated. I've recently felt some improvement from increasing my B12, vit d, iron and folate levels, but still these awful hot flushes persist.
