If you are hypothyroid, this is totally normal. Hypothyroidism is considered a GP-managed condition, although many GPs don't seem to know anything about thyroid!
If you are not getting well on your treatment, you can ask for a referral and it is advisable although some GPs will not oblige. Hopefully yours will if you need a referral

Hi Yes, if you feel OK the GP should be fine. If you feel worse and doctor unresponsive or serious heart or kidney problems then, you should be under an endo. However, make sure they are good ,if happy with the GP ,then, you may do worse with an endo unless very careful who you choose!

Hi I was diagnosed in 1994 and I too have never seen a Consultant. Over the years I have had my medication altered. I have managed my condition with the help of the GP and self medication with herbal remedies. This suits me but its what ever you feel helps or would help you.

Severe hypothyroidism (with related symptoms e.g shortness of breath, extreme fatigue etc.) would often be referred to a hospital physician in my experience.
