New doc tells me high blood pressure does not go with under active thyroid. I have had both for years any one else
High blood preasure: New doc tells me high blood... - Thyroid UK
High blood preasure
The snippet below is quoted from Thyroid Manager - a major site which is written by some of the very best endocrinologists in the world.
Table 9-8. Cardiovascular manifestations of hypothyroidism.
Pathophysiology
Symptoms
• reduced myocardial contractility
• low cardiac output
• increased peripheral vascular resistance
• decreased blood volume
• increased capillary permeability
• dyspnea
• decreased exercise tolerance • angina
Signs • low pulse rate • diastolic hypertension • cardiomegaly • pericardial effusion • peripheral (non)pitting edema • low voltage ECG with conduction disturbances and nonspecific ST-T changes
• prolonged systolic time intervals

My impression from people who post here is the hypothyroidism can result in low blood pressure, high blood pressure or normal blood pressure! But both low and high often improve with adequate treatment.
In the past few years there have been several papers indicating that there is a very complex relationship between functioning of the heart and vascular system and thyroid hormones.

Do appreciate that this snippet is specifically about the lower of the two pressures. E.g. in 120/80 it would be the 80 value that goes up.
But in reality both go up in many hypothyroid people.
Further down on the same link you can find this - which claims that hypertension can be a sign even in subclinical hypothyroidism:
Table 9-15. Abnormalities reported in some but not all studies on subclinical hypothyroidism.
Symptoms
• hypothyroid symptoms
• impaired well-being and quality of life
• impaired cognitive functions (working memory)
• mood disturbances
Signs
• impaired left ventricle diastolic and systolic function
• hypertension
• increased systemic vasular resistance
• increased central arterial stiffness
• impaired endothelium function
• increased carotid intima-media thickness
• impaired muscle energy metabolism
• impaired peripheral nerve conduction latency and amplitude
• impaired stapedial reflex
Biochemistry
• high serum total and LDL cholesterol
• high HOMA index (insulin resistance)
• high serum C-reactive protein
• low factor VIIa
• high serum lactate during exercise
• low serum IGF-1, high serum leptin
Hi Peggy, my BP was getting quite high - 149/89, but since being on Vit D3 it has come down to 127/83. I have also, without trying, lost about 3/4 stone in weight.
Thanks for that maybe I shall try that as well how long did it take to drop and were you on meds for bp as well xx
Your doctor is stupid if he thinks there is no link, especially if he is prescribing levo (salts).
I think Dr S and Dr P both mention this as a symptom in their books. Think they mentioned something about a compensation mechanism but I can't remember :-s sorry xx
I must look this up in the book. Many hypertension cases could be hidden in this response mechanism -as hypotension is usually given as a common symptom in UAT.
