Has anyone had success with using a short course of Prednisolone for treatment of fibromyalgia pains?

I have read in the books of Dr Lowe and Dr Peatfield that a short course of Cortisol can alleviate pain caused by adrenal fatigue and hypothyroidism. Can anyone confirm this?

I took hydrocortisone for several years and my neck, shoulder and back pain almost, but not quite, resolved in that time. I took it for adrenal problems not for fibro because no-one ever mentioned fibro to me. No amount of thyroid hormones of any sort have helped as the hc did and now I don't take it any more the pains are back with a vengeance.

Thank you for your input Framboise. We thyroid sufferers all know that life is just one big lottery for us!!

I have finished a short sharp course of prednisolone for asthma and have reduced to a small dose for the time being. The pain in my shoulder that has been bothering me for months has gone! And the asthma is better!

Thank you for your answer, what dose did you take, and for how long?

I took prednisolone for asthma a while back and found it made me feel appalling - bloated, couldn't sleep, classic wired and tired.

yes, it has made me feel rotten-but a necessary evil!

At least it fixed your asthma. It had no effect on mine. But it seems to have fixed itself now with a combination of vitamin D, B12 and MSM. Haven't needed an inhaler since the end of 2010.

I'm glad you have sorted your asthma. I admit i am still needing the brown inhaler-so it's not really under control, but better than it was.

I took 40mg prednisolone for a week (8 tablets a day) and then reduced by one tablet a day until i was down to one. Now i am on half a tablet a day-2.5 mg-doctor told me to do this.I am not sure if such a small amount is doing anything though. I had a bad virus and still feel exhausted and will have blood tests next week.

Last year I took 5mg prednisolone for about 5 weeks. I suffer fibro with headaches and eye pain when I move my eyes. I took it so that I could enjoy my holiday. it made a huge difference to me, my pain was 90% better. I had been having the eye pain for months on end, it has not returned with such vengeance since, although my other aches and pains have.

I agree with Dr Peatfield, in what he says about it being a physiological dose. Our adrenals make that same amount naturally.

Sadly my GP does not agree.

I use hGH (191 amino acid ash residue) on a daily basis for pain management. There are many benefits to using it!

LoMo, I'm dying to know what this hGH (191 amino acid ash residue) is. I tried googling it but didn't come up with much. Could you explain, please?

Thank you, Grey

Brooksey, yes, I use hydrocortisone because my adrenals are shot to pieces. It gives the adrenals a little help at the beginning of the day when their work-load is heaviest (getting you out of bed, etc) and allows them to rest and recover.

The body needs cortisol in order to use thyroid hormone properly, and proper use of thyroid hormone can eleviate the aches and pains (so-called 'fibro pain').

I don't know about a short course, it can take years. Depends how bad your adrenals are, how long you've been hypo without treatment or how long you've been under-treated.

I can't tell you from personal experienence how well it works because I'm not there yet. I was hypo for at least fifty years before I was diagnosed, and then grossly under-treated for about ten years. But I am lead to believe that it is going to work and I live in hope!

Hugs, Grey

Your story sounds like mine, 40 years undiagnosed and last 10 years trying to get treatment. There have been brief periods when I felt so much better, and announced to the World 'Eureka' I am winning the battle, only to be 'poleaxed' and have to start again!!! This is where I am at now!!

Yup, you and me both! I'm having a major set-back at the moment. Last October, I started taking my hormone at night, inspired by Dr Lowe, and at first it was great. I had great energy over Christmas (thankfully!). But I think all that festivity took it out of me and then I got flu, and it's been down-hill all the way since... Don't know whether to stop dosing at night or to try and weather it out. Sigh.

Hope things get better for you soon, Grey

Another similarity! After reading Dr Lowe's book I decided to try the T3 before bed and it was beginning to work, but due to organising one too many Xmas functions my adrenals became stressed and I am back to square one!!!

Hope you get back on track soon.

As I said earlier, i am on prednisolone for asthma. However I think my burnt out adrenals are at the root of all my woes and why i keep on getting chest infections-despite armour thyroid for 14 years.( Same thing with me of years of undiagnosed hypoT.)My GP said to take half a prednisolone tablet a day (2.5mg). How much are you on for adrenal support?

I have also had a lot of operations which has further stressed my body and I can't have the next one until this is sorted out. i saw an endo recently who was in denial about my adrenal problems!
