Sam, if you can get a copy of your blood test results complete with ranges and post someone will comment. We can have low or suppressed TSH's if we feel o.k.

You sound like me when I was on levo which gave me insomnia amongst other things. Cholesterol is one of the symptoms of hypothyrodism because our metabolism is so slow.

This is a link which may be informative.

Have you had your iron levels tested? I start shedding hair when my iron is low.

There's a lot of confusing information out there about cholesterol. As far as I've been able to work out, it's the type of lipoproteins that matter, not their absolute number, which is what you get when you measure total cholesterol.

Thank you, being an olden,Im not very up on all the medical jargon, but I do have a pretty good diet, including plenty of salmon and fruit....but not much green stuff so you may well be right about the iron, I will take a supliment for this and hope....could just be old age ? X

OK, sorry. That was my way of saying don't panic about your total cholesterol. When it comes to risk of heart disease that number doesn't mean much on its own.

Iron is one of those things it is really best that you get tested before starting supplements because its harmful to have too much iron... they would need to check serum iron, transferrin saturation and ferritin (iron storage).

Hi All advice spot on but I would also add make sure our TSH T4 and Free T3 have been tested, often not so, cost saving and various excuses! Most endo`s realise how vital the 3 tests are. From the little you put ,you may need treating also with T3.but you will need the test first. In the mean time ( anyway good idea) have cholesterol lowering foods eg oats and apple daily ,They actually lower the cholesterol , there are other food that help too. Make sure your sodium level ( salt ) is at the bottom of the range ( kidney function U` and E`s ) but it must be in range.

This really annoys me, at one time if you saw your GP and something was high it would be investigated, now they just give you statins without looking at you medical history! You should never take statins if you are hypo, they interfere with your body's production of Co-enzyme Q10 which is vital to convert T4 to the active T3.
