I have used this site for a few years and have found it extremely helpful.I have an under active thyroid as does my sister and I would like advice about her please. My sister was diagnosed when she was 23 after having her daughter, when it was finally discovered she was very poorly and extremely under active. For the last 20 years she has been fairly well and un troubled taking 100 mc of Thyroxine. But 2 to 3 months ago she went hyper and the Dr cut her tab down to 75. After 6 weeks she went for another blood test ,only the TSH and it is now 6.9 .Dr says this is fine and in range and to come back in a year !!!! For another blood test.I know this is not right and am very concerned ,her bloods were always around THS 1 for years and I know she will not be well at this level. At the moment she says she is tired !!! I would appreciate your thoughts,Thanks

Advice about my sister Hyper now hypo.
When you say "2 to 3 months ago she went hyper", was this due to her getting hyper symptoms (racing heart, etc) or was it decided on her TSH blood test result?
If she can get a copy of the full thyoid gland blood test and post here complete with the ranges (as each lab differs), it will make it better for people to comment.
6.9 is too high for someone who has hypothyroid. A TSH of 1 or below is preferable for us.
Surely any change in med should be monitored more closely than a yearly appointment. I would complain to the GPs and ask to see a different doctor within the practice or a referral to an endo.
Thankyou for your prompt replies, my sister felt very anxious and unable to rest ablood test confirmed she had gone over.As far as I know over the 20 plus years she has only had her TSH tested and nothing else.I am obviously worried at her Doctors dismissive comments, I feel another blood test in say 3 months? And a full one as by reducing by just 25 mcu has had a dramatic affect on her.yes I feel a specialist should be involved as she was on the brink of heart failure when she was first diagnosed.Drs Grrrr you so have to look out for your self .
