How does LDN help with hypoT? Anyone had experience?
I believe LDN is used for treating autoimmune conditions, including RA, lupus and hashimoto's. I'm not sure exactly how it works but it seems to reduce the activity of the autoimmune disease and therefore the inflammation. In the case of autoimmune thyroid conditions, this would mean that thyroid function would be more under control as the inflammation is more controlled. I don't think it would have any effect on hypothyroidism that is not of an autoimmune nature.
I could be wrong though, but if that is the case I'm sure someone will clear this up
Thanks,
Don't know if I am autoimmune so expect I should find out . Never bothered before as treatment for thypoT seems to be the same whether autoimmune or not and I'm not badly affected
I also have discoid lupus but thankfully that has been in remission for a long time so perhaps I should leave well alone. Lupus seems to be one of these conditions that improves with age (I'm 73), some blessings with old age!!!
If you have lupus there is a good chance your hypothyroidism is autoimmune. I agree that if you are reasonably well at the moment you don't want to do anything that might cause a flare-up. It is something worth looking into for the future though, in case you do get a flare-up of either condition or both.
I understand that LDN helps regulate the growth of new cells, and in doing so 'fixes' certain medical problems that we may have.
After three months on it, I feel better in some ways, but not completely well.
Because it is said to alleviate auto-immune conditions, some say that we should reduce our thyroid meds while taking LDN. I cut mine down from 120 to 90 mg but found out last week that my TSH had gone up to 8, and my free T3 was low, so my endo suggested I go back to 120 mg.
