Davvy,

You started off way worse than me!

But I do indeed suffer from nausea - quite variably from almost nothing to quite a lot. I am convinced that something has gone wrong in my throat - maybe a slight growth of my thyroid pressing against my throat.

My doctor is convinced it is due to acid reflux - and tried me on Omeprazole. Utterly unconvinced as, in my view, typical hypothyroid acid reflux is due to the weakness of the sphincter rather than the stomach producing too much acid.

I have been prescribed 3mg Buccastem. You hold one of these tiny tablets on your upper gum and it can last two or more hours. Doesn't seem to do much to begin with but overall it does help to reduce the nausea. It does only provide a measure of symptomatic relief.

My take is that for me it has nothing to do with the thyroxine - it really hasn't changed much between pre-diagnosis and now, several months later. I have put my views here but your own opinion is very important.

All the best

I had nausea as well and when diagnosed my TSH was 68. I was told that it could have been due to slow stomach emptying (food hanging around in the system far longer than it should and going bad) as the metabolic rate had slowed down so much due to the hypothyroidism. When my meds were up to speed it slowly went away - but now the nausea is back so I am having another blood test done.

I'm so pleased that other people have experienced this too (not because I want you to feel nauseous!!), I always get nausea when my thyroxine needs increasing, as soon as the dose is increased I am fine again. have asked many other people with underactive thyroid and nobody else has had that horrible sicky feeling.

glad itsnot jsut me!

I get it quite a lot of nausea too, I have been on Levo but not enough, it has just been increased yesterday by 25mcg (wait and see.) What i notice is that I dare not eat too much at a time. I have to eat little and often. I'm on Omeprazole, too, because I am taking Clopidogrel - that's my next issue to tackle - and I tend to get acute stomach pain with anything such as aspirin which makes the blood less 'sticky'. I'm interested in what Sheila2 and hevski say because I am hoping it will go away once my levo is sorted properly. It's worth having more tests done and see what's happening.
