Feeling sad.

It feels I make a lot of mistakes with dosing. I have a new job, which requires a lot of attention and I seem to feel terrible the last few days. I am abroad in training, far away from my partner, have issues falling asleep etc. I don't know what dose to be on. I messed up :( I was on 150 mcg Levo for 5 weeks and with having lowish t3 and loads of hypo symptoms, I increased by 5 mcg for a week. I started to get overdose symptoms (I think possible even a bit before the increase), my ft4 is high in range at 90%, ft3 was also highish at 70%...tested a week after increase. I don't know what to do :( x I had to skip two doses, take less t4 the last week as anytime I tried to add 150 mcg or even less I would shake and get anxiety, sweaty palms, sweats :( now I tolerate 137.5 after a week.

Hi

Could you possibly get a DRS appointment where you are to help you until you are home. Love and hugs Lynne xxxx

in reply to

Hey Lynne, thank you so much for your message. I don't think I can, I'm in the US right now, I managed on the plane, but on a day 4 here it starts getting to me. I am 34, would love to have a child, feel normal , not spaced out, stiff, I am embarassed to wear skirts or shorts, my legs are full of water and cellulite. Everything has been on hold since mid 2017, when I had a flare up. I did write to my own endo back home about a week ago, who said she would see me in two months and won't discuss symptoms over email :( sometimes it can make you feel so lonely, so unfair. Big hugs xxxxxx I just start feeling like it's all my own fault, by being impatient.

in reply to

It's not your own fault, you need help. Could you also have fibromyalgia, a very painful condition. Sending lots of healing hugs your way. Lynne xxxx

I am giving myself as much help as I can, would be great to have a doctor , who could give me an advice and see me in emergency (my doc is private and still can't see her when needed). I went through severe anxiety from overdose in 2017 then to hit severe depression. Got out of it on my own with no meds. I need to stay on a dose for 8 weeks at least, but really don't know if I should go back to 150 or perhaps 137.5 could be better. My anxiety appears with higher doses, once I reduce I start hitting lows. Feeling sorry for myself today xxx thank you Lynne ❤️

Dear cupofcha,

I might suggest alternating days with your dosage. If 150 is too high , take 137 one day and go to 150 the next. Try it for a week and see how it goes until you get home. This is something my endo is trying with me and it seems to be working (I am on a very different dose than you but the principle is the same). This will keep your blood levels somewhat stable and may keep you from getting either too hyper or too hypo . At least you will have a consistent pattern of dosing and you won’t be hit or miss. I keep a notepad in the bathroom and mark what dose I take.

I’m so sorry you’re having such a bad time. It sounds like you have other health issues too and that’s not easy when you are by yourself. I empathize as getting dosing right is so tough. Good luck and I hope you feel better soon! Sending positive thoughts your way.

in reply to Greekchick

Hey greekchick, thank you so much for messaging me x I have literally just put out 150 mcg of Levo for tomorrow morning, this morning I took 137.5. I think this is the best way to go!

I don't have any other health problems (that I know of!). This is a long road to recovery for me. Previously been on Naturethroid, I was overdosed on it by my GP, then it was reformulated so as I was reducing...the proportion of NDT didn't suit me anymore. Started back on Levo weeks ago and I was getting better and then this started.

All my symptoms come and go as a results of Hashimotos :(

Getting the dose right is so so difficult, before I was overdosed I was doing so so well and would tolerate any dose...until overreplaced.

Thank you so much again, big hugs to you too,I'm glad alternating doses helps you xxx great advice, thanks!

Sorry missed the sentence on fibro. I thought I had it couple of years ago, but it turned out it was overdose of hormones. I had pains, couldn't lift a spoon. I only had aches when there is a dramatic change in hormone levels for me.

Your symptoms could be linked to Adrenals ...sorry have not been able to read all your other posts. Are you supplementing vitamins and minerals ?

in reply to Marz

Hey Marz, thank you for your message. My adrenals are fine, done cortisol tests (saliva, blood). I had high cortisol about two years ago according to saliva test, was losing weight at that time. I am supplementing vit D 8000 units, which brings me to optimal 119 in a range up to 125, vit B's, my b12 is over mid-range always, iron - my ferritin is within range, but lowish. X

Low iron can produce many symptoms - as oxygen is transported by iron in the red blood cells. Needs to be mid-range ...

in reply to Marz

Absolutely, have been working on it for many months now, will test again. My iron is never low, my hemoglobin is almost high same with hematocrit red cells. So I think I'm good on that front . Thank you xxxx

Increased stress can upset Hashimoto's

Reading previous post you very recently changed from NDT, to Levothyroxine.....and now working away from home. Both events are likely increased strain on adrenals

Not clear from posts if you are taking small doses of T3 or not? If you are, you need to take same dose of T3 every day, often as small split doses.

in reply to SlowDragon

Hey SlowDragon, thank you for responding to me. I have recently moved from NDT to T4 and for the most part was a very positive move, started to feel normal, like myself. I don't take any t3 at this moment, want to give Levo a chance. My conversion seems better after 6 weeks since ft4 is 90%, ft3 71%. From my notes from the past I know I don't feel good at levels so high, they always give me overdose symptoms (diarrhoea, incredible hunger, crashes, tiredness different to hypo fatigue, shakiness). My adrenals are fine from saliva/blood. I feel similar as when I overdosed on ndt (definitely much less severe this time). I have done well for most years with ft4 hovering around 50-60% max.

It is so sad that you, who was diagnosed in 2012, is still struggling after 7 years. Now you are away from home and probably no-one to talk to - also not feeling well.

In the USA I think I'd consult Hilary Clinton's Endocrinologist who prescribed NDT (natural dessicated thyroid hormones) and many others recover their health.

If you're in the UK, our Organisations removed NDT and considering that NDT has been in use safely in various forms since 1892 until a few years ago when it was replaced with of T4 alone. NDT contains, T4, T3, T2, T1 and calcitonin and being from animals' thyroid glands - maybe more conducive to the human body.

At the very least a combination of T4/T3 should be given a trial and more than several researchers have stated this too.

in reply to shaws

Hey shaws, thank you for replying to me.

I was well for 5 years in those 7, it's the last 2 years since overdose and reformulation of NT I struggled for.

I've heard about Hilary Clinton and Armour. I am here for another 10 days and I then flying home to Ireland.

I have t3 in my cupboard and my endo is willing to put me on Armour, but I want to give t4 a shot first. My thought was to lower Levo a bit and see where my ft3 will land as a result. If after 6- 8 weeks is quite low, then could potentially add small amounts. Previously my low ft4 and high ft,3 made me feel really spaced out, both hyper and hypo, was awful

shaws profile image

It is trial and error. For me T3 is king.

in reply to shaws

It is. I personally think my endo went too high on t4 for me and this always stresses my body - t4 or t3 in excess...

Hey everyone - a quick update...I was feeling pretty weird last week when I posted it and guess what...I got a viral throat infection, most likely from being on a plane so this brought on a lot of symptoms. I am only starting to recover now. What an exhausting trip :) on another hand, my body accumulates water, my nails are breaking, so I will be curious to see how I will feel in a few weeks, and if I at last need to add a little t3 to reduced t4 dose. Hugs xx
