Hello Pinki,

Is your GP managing your thyroid problems adequately? Do you feel well? Are you living a normal life with sufficient energy to hold down a job or whatever you normally do? Is your weight normal and are you free of aches and pains and a muggy fuzzy brain?

If your GP is manageing your hypothyroidism well, and you feel fine then you don't need a specialist. But if the hypothyroidism is preventing you from leading a normal life then you should ask for a referral. your doctor is a GENERAL practitioner, not a thyroid specialist. Some doctors, like specialists, are better at manageing thyroid than others.

Hello - I was interested in your question Pinky because I have been wondering the same. I was diagnosed three year ago and just recently my thyroxine was decreased from 150 to 100 because of my blood results... I wasn't asked how I felt, the instruction came from a letter sent by my GP. I don't have any energy.. my get up and go left me a long time ago. I am controlling my weight with Slimming World but my main 'problems' are brain fog, lack of concentration, forgetfulness, and many other things but as usual my mind is blank..... sorry I remember now..... I don't want to talk to people, even my family, my husband tries to understand this but I would rather be on my own.

Nell I appreciate your answer and I particularly thought the response of the Doctor being a GENERAL practioner quite appropriate. My doctor just doesn't seem to want to understand or even listen to me.

I am going to ask to be referred to an Endocrinologist.

Thank you

Get your t3 measured. privately or via the doc. (Lab 21 £17.00).

If the t4 is not converting to t3 adequately then you are hypothyroid despite the lab readings and an excess of unconverted t4 supposedly causes aches and pains all over.

Do you feel worse since the increase of t4 meds?

Depression not relieved by antidepressants can also be indicative of a lack of t3. Some psychiatrists prescribe t3 for this sort of depression.
