Is it normal to have periods of not feeling well
Im so glad this question has been asked. Yes I have periods of not feeling well. Somedays I have to 'drag' myself to work & hope I will feel better later in the day.
I have periods of feeling really well with reasonable energy. But then I go and overdo it and become so tired eg. housework, shopping, work etc and end up feeling cold & flu-like in the evening & take myself to bed as feel so awful.
It's so frustrating, Im 52 years old but sometimes feel like an old woman! I cannot do as much as I used to and have to pace myself, but that is easier said than done when things need doing.
I would be most interested as to whether this applies to anyone else?
A lot of people have periods of not feeling well and there can be many reasons for this. One could be that you overdo things and you therefore do not have enough thyroxine in your system to cope. Don't forget, in a normal person, the thyroid balances itself but when you are taking thyroxine your body is probably only getting the amount of medication you take and therefore if you use a lot more energy, you need more thyroxine to cope with it. It's difficult, though, as taking thyroxine is not instant like insulin is. It could be a few days after you have done more that you notice the tiredness.
Hi Margaret, like you I have these periods. I am 52 yrs old and in the past have blamed it on my age and the change in my 'female' hormones. About three weeks ago when I say I was taking power naps in the afternoon it is an understatement. It was just like a switch being turned off on my energy cells and I needed to recharge. The sleep was so deep but also exhausting. Also I lost more than my usual amount of hair so much so I took photographs of it left in the shower and duly went along to my Doctor. I was told my thyroid levels were fine (I had my thyroxine reduced from 125mcg to 100 mcg about 4 months ago) and that the hairloss was probably thyroid related but in 30 yrs of practice my Doctor hadn't seen anyone go bald - and there was no cure. Please let me say that I can't sustain this loss but as I am forever the optimist I am hoping it may pass. My husband was a bit worried with how the Doctor had left it as he has seen the hair and obviously nows how tired I had been.
When I got home from the surgery I referred to my Thyroid Uk Manual to see if there were any private physicians and I decided to email Lyn who was very helpful.........In the meantime I had bought myself some Vitamin D tablets to assist with my energy levels and aches and pains and somehow I started to feel better. Maybe a coincidence I don't really know but I need to get this hairloss sorted out. I sometimes find that I have what I call crash and burn periods where for some reason I just need to catch up on my sleep. I am quite a busy person and upbeat so for me really to feel despondent after what the Doctor said I can't imagine what a more sensitive person would feel. I always think at least I aren't very ill like some poor souls like a lot of thyroid patients WE SOMEHOW SOLDIER ON.
