Firstly, I want to repeat Janine159’s very true comment thanking this group for all the help, hope and support it gives 🙏

It’s over 9days since I spoke to a GP about my symptoms, private blood tests and need for pain relief. Still no help.

My private results showed T4 as low in range so I probably need a dose increase even though my GP initially said my condition is well managed & I don’t need regular monitoring after my first 2months of 50mcg Levo.

I only receive 28 tablets at a time so I can’t even attempt to try increasing my dose myself - by taking half a tablet every other day?

Is it normal to only have 28 at a time?

Thank you lovely people!

Many GP practices only offer 28 day prescriptions. Some might give you 2 months worth if you're lucky. Its worth asking of they will offer more, some might but others won't.

I was on 28 tab prescription, told gp the renewal frequency was making me stressed and he put me on 8 weekly intervals.

Hi yes it's lovely we have somewhere to ask as it's v stressful at times dealing Dr's . Looking at readings and not interested patients it seems . I will be ready to quote the nice guidelines and say I don't feel well and you're keeping me unwell if I feel ill and they don't Increase it .I am sitting it out til my next review .think Dr's think we all get on lives just feeling a bit tired now and then .so what's the problem waiting few months like it .. but it is a big subject I suppose one they don't have the time for .I too feel like I want to up my dosage myself but know my readings will be messed up next time ..hope you get things better for yourself xx

As one very candid GP said to me when I asked for more, "We don't like prescribing for longer as it is quite a cumulative waste if people die and leave unused medication behind." She then looked at me quizzically and smilingly said, "Oooh, I don't think you will go in the next three months so I will let you have them!"😂

I hadn’t thought of that! Very shortsighted when you think of all the resources patients use travelling to collect prescriptions in rural areas. Will see if I get a similar response - thank you 😀

ask your pharmacy how soon they will accept a repeat prescription request, eg I’m on 56 x my dose and I know I can order at 6-7 weeks and doing that since 2021 even as my doses increased and I then cut back a bit I am a few boxes in hand. Never so much that it will be out of date but enough to feel secure.

Thank you - I’m on repeat now so perhaps I’ll order early and see how they react.
